Great to catch up with Virendra Vegda in Ahmedabad.

He is coaching Saurashtra Cricket after a distinguished playing career. We met when we played together for High Halstow Cricket Club in 2008 and 2009. Viru is remembered fondly by everyone at HHCC where he was a great success and an inspiration in his professionalism as well as his outstanding performances.

Just one month into the job, Prime Minister Andy Burnham is already rolling out a package of measures aimed at easing the cost of living, improving public services and putting more power in the hands of local communities.

Cutting tax on electricity bills, a £2 bus fare cap, cheaper rail travel for young people and free 24/7 bus travel for disabled people will all help families keep more money in their pockets.

There’s action too on our public services and communities – with 159 new mental health centres, investment to tackle rough sleeping this winter, support for farmers affected by the drought and lower business rates for pubs, clubs and music venues.

The Government is also taking action on rip-off subscriptions and fake discounts, illegal waste dumps and asylum hotels, while giving communities more say over their high streets.

Importantly, Andy is following through on his commitment to move power out of Westminster, giving mayors greater control over funding and a share of income tax, alongside the biggest transfer of power and responsibility to our regions in a generation. by @billestersonmp

Today was the first time I’ve canvassed in Ainsdale as a candidate. Fantastic level of support for The Labour Party

Ainsdale has never had a Labour MP before.

Hopefully that’s about to happen.

Feedback from the debate yesterday was that people didn’t believe Rishi Sunak!

Very sad news over the weekend as our dad, Derek Esterson died at the age of 90.

Dad had an amazing life, full of fine achievements.

He trained as a teacher.

He was a pioneer in computing in schools in the UK and around the world.

He served as a magistrate, a hospital governor, a local councillor and as agent to a successful parliamentary candidate at 3 general elections.

He loved sailing, chess and bridge.

We are immensely proud of him.

Above all, dad was generous, kind and supportive of mum, of us, of his grandchildren and of his great grandchildren.

Thank you to everyone who has sent messages of love and support and thank you to all those in our NHS and care services who helped look after dad lately.

We love him very much and miss him deeply.

Rest in peace, dad.

Thanks everyone for your lovely birthday wishes yesterday.

We had lunch at Gusto, Liverpool Albert Dock and an afternoon at Museum of Liverpool followed by the latest Mission impossible in evening.

Beer and wine were both involved as were two dog walks. by @billestersonmp

A completely inadequate answer from the minister to the skills shortage.

£600 million of apprenticeship levy funding was returned the treasury last year, enough for more than 60,000 new apprenticeships.

He confirmed that the US Inflation Reduction Act is attracting investment away from the UK to the US.

British industry needs a response to Joe Biden's Made in America policy.

Yet that’s all Kemi Badenoch has done in response to calls for help with modernisation.
