Long-time friends extend their love of photography with the curatorial work by Carl Juste and the fine-art photography of Bill Frakes in the upcoming IPC ArtSpace exhibition, "Coming Home: Spirit of the Land."

Frakes has roamed the world making images for four decades for many publications, but the place he always returns to is his first home.

As a fifth-generation Nebraskan, his photos are born from a simple, solid way of life that still represents a sense of home for him.

Nebraska comes alive in Frakes's photos, revealing an intimate relationship with the forces of nature. We see unexpected beauty, a place that moves slowly and requires patience. We feel a sense of time of another time, marked by almost imperceptible shifts of change in the air and light. This shift of change is through his lens, a place like no other.

It is the middle of nowhere, the center of everything.

Nebraska is a land of poets and cowboys, buffalo, and meadowlarks. A sprawling land harnessed for its bounty. A place that helps feed the world.

A rugged landscape that blankets a fragile ecosystem, it's a place untamed, ruled by Mother nature. The folks here ride the land like a bucking bronco.

With colossal temperature swings, vast differences in topography, and unrelenting wind, Nebraska makes up for it with beautiful scenes, more miles of river than any other state, and vistas that stretch forever.
Here you find the extraordinary buried in the ordinary. Natural art and dance dominate daily life.

This American oasis is of generous people and natural beauty. The abiding wonder of the place is that everyone connects with the land and the soil. It's where they find their substance and their center.

The state is like a well-worn shoe. It's not fancy; it's comfortable and dependable. And no matter how long you wear the old friend, it remains better than a shiny new one.

“I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority.”

“National parks are the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst.“.——Wallace Stegner by @billfrakes

“Above us, stars. Beneath us, constellations.
Five billion miles away, a galaxy dies
like a snowflake falling on water. Below us,
some farmer, feeling the chill of that distant death,
snaps on his yard light, drawing his sheds and barn
back into the little system of his care.
All night, the cities, like shimmering novas,
tug with bright streets at lonely lights like
his.” The great former Poet Laureate of the United States Ted Kooser as always bringing perspective. by @billfrakes
