Most businesses stuck between $1M and $10M don't have a product problem.

They have a go-to-market problem.

I've spent countless hours looking at businesses that broke through major growth barriers. Atlassian, Xero, Accenture and F45 are very different businesses, but there's something interesting in how they scaled.

At some point, the product or service wasn't enough. They had to change how they took it to market.

Xero is a great example. It wasn't simply about building better accounting software. Accountants became an incredibly powerful channel into small businesses, giving Xero leverage that selling one customer at a time couldn't.

F45 did something different. They systemised a service until it could be replicated, then used franchising to scale globally. There's an important warning in that story too, eventually growth got ahead of the unit economics.

Different businesses. Different channels. Same principle.

Sometimes the thing stopping you from growing isn't what you're selling. It's how you're selling it.

I've seen the same thing repeatedly over the last 20 years building businesses and running revenue across two ASX-listed companies.

When growth slows, the instinct is usually to do more of what worked before. Hire another salesperson. Spend more on marketing. Generate more leads.

You're pouring more fuel into an engine that isn't capable of going any faster.

Sometimes a change in positioning, pricing, channel, partnerships or sales motion can completely change the trajectory of a business without fundamentally changing the product.

So this quarter I'm taking on two companies for a 6 month GTM Revamp.

We'll pull apart the existing GTM, identify the real constraint and rebuild the positioning, pricing, channels and sales motion around the next stage of growth. Then we'll install the systems and cadence so growth doesn't depend on the founder sitting in every deal.

I'm looking for established service or technology businesses doing $2M–$20M in revenue that have a good business, but know their current growth emgome has run out of steam.

Well, this is a little awkward but that’s the zone I live most my life in so….

I deleted every post on my Instagram, disappeared for a while, and now I’m back pretending none of that happened.

So I figured I should probably reintroduce myself.

Dad to two incredible teenage daughters (15 and 13), who somehow keep me grounded while simultaneously reminding me how uncool I am (untrue of course).

I’m also an Arsenal tragic.

Professionally, I’ve spent the last 20 years building businesses. I’ve been fortunate enough to have some success, lead ASX-listed businesses and help scale others through some pretty challenging periods.

Today I’m Executive Director at Bond Property Lawyers, where we’ve grown from $0 to almost $8.5 million in annual revenue in under three years, almost entirely bootstrapped.

I’m also a keynote speaker and spending more time helping founders of service and technology businesses scale through Levels Growth Consultants, which is something I’m really enjoying.

If you’re new here, welcome.

Hopefully this time I can keep my posts on the page for longer than a few months. šŸ˜… by @billniko10

There aren’t many things I enjoy more than being on a stage for one of my keynotes.

It’s not for the spotlight. It is for the moment you see something land, that’s the whole reason I do it.

I’ve spent 20 years building, scaling, turning around and rebuilding businesses. I’ve had some great wins, made plenty of mistakes and learned a lot of lessons the hard way.

Speaking gives me the chance to share those lessons over and hopefully give people something practical they can actually use when they get back to their desk on Monday morning.

I’ve just refreshed my five keynote topics:

→ Your Best Salespeople Don’t Work For You
How to turn customers, partners and your network into a growth engine.

→ AI Won’t Replace Your Business. Someone Using It Will.
A practical playbook for using AI to build a better service business.

→ The Founder Problem
How to build a business that can scale beyond you.

→ Why Doesn’t Anyone Care As Much As I Do?
How to build a team that takes ownership, performs and holds itself accountable.

→ Built the Hard Way
What setbacks, pressure and rebuilding taught me about leadership and resilience.

None of these came from researching a topic because I thought it would make a good keynote. They’ve all come from things I’ve actually lived.

I’ve been lucky enough to speak to some brilliant audiences recently, and the feedback has meant a lot. I’ve shared a few of the comments in the images below.

If you’re planning a conference, PD day, sales event or leadership event and want a speaker who’ll give your audience something they can actually take away and use, I’d love to have a chat.

And to everyone who has booked me, recommended me or put me in front of their people, thank you.

I genuinely love doing this. It never gets old.

You can check out my revamped website for more on the topics here: billniko.com

Another record month for the team at Bond Property Lawyers. šŸ‘

I’m incredibly proud of what our team achieved in July 2026.

Despite the slowdown in property transactions across Australia, we had our biggest month on record, assisting more than 1,000 people, families and investors with their property law needs.

From residential and commercial sales and purchases, to subdivisions, contract reviews and advice on loan documentation, our team remained focused on delivering exceptional service and practical legal advice when our clients needed it most.

Growth isn’t just measured by numbers—it’s measured by the trust our clients and referral partners place in us every day. For that, we’re incredibly grateful.

This milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication and passion of every member of the Bond Property Lawyers team. Thank you for your commitment to raising the standard of property law services across Australia.

We’re only just getting started. Our vision remains clear: to build Australia’s leading property law firm, powered by exceptional people, innovative technology and an unwavering commitment to client service.

Thank you to every client, real estate agent, mortgage broker and referral partner who continues to place their trust in us. We don’t take that trust for granted.

The biggest opportunity in AI isn't building another AI software company. That's the case our Executive Director Bill Nikolouzakis makes in his latest newsletter, and it's one of the reasons Bond's investing so heavily in AI.

His core point: "Rather than replacing professionals, AI dramatically increases their leverage." A lawyer who can look after more clients without compromising quality builds a better firm, and a better experience for the people on the other side of the file.

Bill's full piece is linked in the comments. Worth the read if you're watching where professional services are heading.

The Rollercoaster of Startup Life šŸŽ¢

Startup life isn’t for the faint-hearted.

One moment, you’re on top of the world, celebrating a major win, landing a big client, hitting a growth milestone, or simply seeing your idea come to life.

The next you’re grappling with a setback you didn’t see coming and questioning everything.

But that’s the game we signed up for, isn’t it? The sleepless nights, the relentless problem-solving, the moments of doubt.

And then… the breakthroughs. Those sweet, rewarding moments when all the blood, sweat, and tears feel worth it.

The truth is, building something from nothing isn’t glamorous. It’s messy. It’s uncertain. It’s often downright terrifying. But it’s also exhilarating.

There’s a unique kind of magic in dreaming up something new, rallying others around your vision, and watching it slowly take shape, piece by piece.

Here’s what I’ve learned on this ride:

1ļøāƒ£ Resilience matters more than resources. The ability to bounce back, adapt, and keep going will carry you through the darkest days.

2ļøāƒ£ Your team is everything. Surround yourself with people who believe in the mission as much as you do.

3ļøāƒ£ Celebrate the small wins. They’re what keep you moving forward when the big wins feel far away.

I’ve had multiple startups and learned the hard lessons along the way.

My biggest lesson?

The hard times will pass but the good times can also be fleeting. If you truly believe in what you are building keep pushing forward. Be nimble, change course when you need to and keep believing. And most importantly, don’t forget why you started in the first place.

Because while the rollercoaster is wild, it’s also where the best stories are made. šŸ’”

Managing a remote workforce requires a shift in mindset.

Here are some key strategies to keep your WFH team productive and thriving:

Clear Expectations & Consistent Delivery: Set measurable goals and hold everyone accountable, regardless of location.

Communication is Key: Bridge the physical gap with regular check-ins, open communication, and a culture of collaboration. Think weekly 1-1’s, team meetings and phone check-ins.

Empower, Don't Micromanage: Trust your team to manage their time and deliver results. Focus on outcomes, not face time.

Invest in the Right Tools: Equip your team with the technology they need to stay connected and collaborate seamlessly.

Prioritize Well-being: Acknowledge the challenges of remote work and promote a healthy work-life balance.

Leadership isn't a title, it's a commitment to continuous improvement.

Here's a closer look at the core principles in my approach:

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Growth stagnates in the comfort zone. Take on new projects that stretch your skills, volunteer for unfamiliar tasks, and seek out opportunities to lead outside your usual domain. This is how you discover hidden strengths and develop the adaptability needed for real-world challenges.

Embrace Failure, Not Fear It: Mistakes are inevitable on the leadership journey. The key is to learn from your stumbles, not let them define you. Own your failures openly, analyze what went wrong, and use those lessons to improve your decision-making. This builds trust with your team and fosters a culture of growth over perfectionism.

Never Stop Learning: The best leaders are insatiable learners. Actively seek out new knowledge through reading industry publications, listening to thought leader podcasts, attending workshops, and most importantly, surrounding yourself with people who challenge your perspectives. Learning is a lifelong pursuit, and leaders who embrace it stay ahead of the curve.

Remember, leadership isn't a solo act. Develop your mentorship skills and actively seek out mentors who can guide you on your growth journey. Building a strong support network of like-minded leaders is crucial for navigating challenges and sharing best practices.

By embracing these core principles, you can develop the grit and determination needed to become a leader who:
- Inspires your team to achieve their full potential.
- Motivates through action and example.
- Delivers results consistently.

Ready to build your leadership muscle and become a force to be reckoned with? Let's talk!

We've all seen them – the leaders with the swag and charisma but lack substance.

The ones who project confidence but crumble under pressure.

The truth is, true leadership isn't about a polished facade. It's about grit, determination, and the relentless pursuit of growth.

The "fake it till you make it" mentality might work for a short while, but it crumbles in the face of real challenges. Great leaders aren't afraid to step outside their comfort zones, embrace messy learning experiences, and own their mistakes.

They understand that leadership is a continuous journey of self-improvement, not a destination with a fancy corner office.

So, what does it take to build the resilience and growth mindset needed for true leadership?

This week, I'll share my manifesto for building leadership muscle. It's a framework for developing the grit and determination that separates good leaders from great ones.

Ready to ditch the facade and become a leader who inspires and gets results?

Send me a DM or follow the link in my bio to set up a free 30 minute consultation.
