Exquisite dinner last night made by our incomparable hostess, Louisa Vittorio, at the house just above us - with its 2nd or 3rd Century AD Roman tomb in the garden - that has been in her family for seven generations. DH Lawrence and his wife Frieda lived here in the early 1920s, Truman Capote in the early 1950s. Our stay a little lower in the garden at the Villa Brittannia, Louisa’s childhood home, also with its sweeping views of the mountains, the sea and the Calabrian mainland across the straits, has been unforgettable. Everything a delight. Until next time, ciao, carissima Louisa! @villa.lawrencetaormina #villalawrence #villabritannia #taormina #sicily #september taken in Villa Lawrence Taormina by @billyapt

“Fontana Vecchia, old fountain, so the house is called. Pace, peace: this word is carved into a stone doorstep…. It is a rose-colored house dominating a valley of almond and olive trees that sinks into the sea. Across the water there is a view on clear days of Italy’s tip end, the peninsula of Calabria. Back of us, a stony, wavering path, traveled mostly by farming peasants, their donkeys and goats, leads along the side of the mountain into the town of Taormina…. There is a momentous feeling each time one looks from the windows, steps onto the terrace, a feeling of being suspended, like white reeling doves, between the mountains and above the sea…” - Truman Capote, Fontana Vecchia (1951) #villabrittania #villalawrence #fontanavecchia #dhlawrence #trumancapote taken in Villa Britannia Taormina by @billyapt
