Finished my mural at Horfield library! thanks Merny and Pancake 💕for helping me get the painting done. 4 years and 3 miscarriages later, we finally got our baby pancake!
I don’t usually share much personal stuff on here, but this has been such an all consuming part of my life for the last few years, now that our little girl is here and I’m taking some time off, I thought I could talk about it a little bit. I know so many people go through similar loss and suffer in silence, maybe it’s too painful to talk about it.

Having a miscarriage is horrendous. Experiencing recurrent miscarriage was a deeply lonely and sad time, I was taken to some dark places that at times, I honestly couldn’t see the light out of.

A sadness grew inside me that manifested with intrusive thoughts and I hated myself for feeling jealous or negative about things I used to feel such joy for. It’s horrible when you feel like you have no control over your body or mind. It’s easy to fall down the dark hole. BUT painting and drawing and doing things I loved helped me a lot. I felt comfort in being outside, looking up at the sky and trying to grab at some perspective.

There were moments when hoping seemed so hopeless that now I still can’t believe she’s real. It’s easy to forget what we went through to get her here, so I thought I’d take a moment to acknowledge the contrast of heartache to happiness and put it out there, maybe other people going through something similar might not feel so alone.

I know how unhelpful it is to see someone else go through fertility troubles with a positive outcome because that’s their story not yours but please free to message me if you want to chat about anything to do with this, I became quite informed on the topic and knowledge is power after all. ❤️ by @billycolours

ROCKAWAY ART WEEKEND

This sat and sun.

Featuring my mobile art trolley exhibition thing.

And an absolute mountain of things to do and see. See you there.

Once a scrapyard, and before that a quarry, Rockaway has grown over two decades into a thriving hub housing over 20 artists studios, a community garden, music recording and rehearsal studio, vegan cafe, two covered stages, and the self-declared “Chapel of Unrest” - a crowdfunded monument to alternative thought and protest movements.

Described by VICE as a “DIY Utopia hidden in the British countryside” Rockaway has welcomed guests including wildlife broadcaster Chris Packham and the iconic filmmaker Ken Loach.

This year’s RAW will bring together resident artists and guest makers from across the UK working in painting, sculpture, print, textiles, glass, metalwork and street art alongside a multitude of workshops curated by Fieldwork including: Badge making, Ink cap mushroom screenprinting by Justine Green and Risograph poster making by Formatte.

Exhibitions on site feature prolific a solo show from photographer Chris Killip in the Gallery, A display of new textile works by Black Lodge Press and a special group show featuring many of Rockaway’s residents curated by Kaye Dunnings (Shangri-La Glastonbury)

Elsewhere, there are live demos in letterpress printing by House Of Jo and glass blowing by Lydia Swann, Foraging with Go Foraging and a graffiti workshop by Billy Colours.

Live art and performance on Saturday comes from the cosmic Microrave, and Acid House Therapy, while Sunday brings Clown and Shadow Puppet Show Thimble and the Bug Band taken in Rockaway Park by @billycolours

Red hot colours for a red hot day in Berlin painting the red hot Sahara.

Back in Berlin to paint my favourite Kinderladen.

Thank you to the building owner, the Kita carers, the parents and the children, so welcoming and always happy to see a new painting on their wall. 💖

Who has a copy or chairs and stairs? 🪑🪜

I made this little book in 2019 to document the variety of chairs and stairs seen, enjoyed, drawn and painted in Mexico, Portugal, Spain and Germany on my adventures during 2018 and 2019.

I had 100 of these little books and silly old Billy didn’t keep one for myself. If you have one let me know or maybe I should do a reprint 🤔 by @billycolours

I used to go painting for fun all the time before I had a baby. Then I spent lots of time getting her to sleep and looking for the baby monitor. This is a painting of a baby monitor that I drew around in real life and painted in real life and now she’s a little bit bigger I’m going out painting again for fun. by @billycolours

Paint when the baby sleeps! 🖼️👶😴

Most new parents will be familiar with the phrase ‘sleep when the baby sleeps” 😒

Great sentiment, but in reality when the baby sleeps you have loads of other shiz to do.

In my case, when the baby slept it was time to work!

One night when she was sleeping and I was looking for inspo, I grabbed the baby monitor and drew around it multiple times following the movement of taking it around the house with me, losing it and always saying to @mernywernz “where’s the baby mon?”

I’ve been meaning to paint it for ages so I did it this morning. Here’s one for all the tired people 🥱 by @billycolours
