New York City is, unfortunately, not known for its cavernous apartments. See how 2026 #1stDibs50 designer, @billycotton, maximizes the square footage in his own sea-captain-inspired home, replete with an all-in-one George III piece, an extremely skinny refrigerator, and a bedroom portal window. by @billycotton

Thank you @adam_marnie for asking me to write about Blair for your brilliant magazine F.

Not only was it the last place her writing was published, but your gallery in Houston is exactly the kind of space for artists that was one of her greatest life passions.

The work you’re doing holds so much of what she believed in—creativity, and a sense of hope.

For those of you who knew Blair, and those who didn’t—this is only the beginning of our lifelong dialogue and celebration of her singular life.

Love you.

The LA issue of @archdigest has been such an honor to be a part of.

It’s funny — I’ve always felt a bit like an outsider there, even though I’ve worked in Los Angeles nearly every day of my career, built a team there, and continue to find its land and its people endlessly inspiring.

Maybe that’s the magic of LA. It can feel foreign, even when it’s familiar — a free canvas for creative thought.

Working with @leydenlewisdesignstudio and diving into the deep history of Paul Williams and his city was truly incredible.

I can’t wait to see — and hopefully continue to be a part of — this next great chapter. taken in Los Angeles, California by @billycotton

One of my favorite personal moments from the @elledecor shoot.

It’s always funny letting people into your home — and it deepens my gratitude for the clients who trust us to do the same.

It also felt a bit kismet that my conversation with William Graper on the @therecoveringelitistpodcast podcast was released at the same time. We spoke about the meaning of home, how it shapes the work of a creative life, and my incredible father, whom we lost last year. by @billycotton

My apartment with @aaroncator on the cover of @elledecor this month.
This refuge has been a dream come true for us — and only @elk_elisa could have convinced us to share it.

Deeply grateful to her and to the entire Elle Decor team.
More soon.

It’s a big week, starting with the publication in @architecturaldigest of the personal home of Paul Revere Williams. Nearly six years of restoration by @egarchla, landscape by @scott_schrader , and decorating alongside my dear friend @leydenlewisdesignstudio Leydenlewisdesignstudio.

This home—and this client—taught us all so much. Design is always a collaboration, but working with Leyden, with Paul’s spirit always present in the room, has been one of the great honors of my life. 📷 @frankfrancesstudio Styling: @tomborgese Writing: @sarcherize by @billycotton

This corner of NYC has always held a special place for me. When I first moved here 26 years ago, Joel Mathisson Antiques would spread his wares just south of here, and countless nights were spent with my more beautiful (and skinnier) friends at Souen.

So when this plucky group of young Los Angelinos told me they’d gotten the lease, I just couldn’t let them f*** it up. I called my friend Will Cooper @wtcooper , with whom I’ve spent more than a few minutes bemoaning the Disney-fication of NYC dining (PS: I love Disney).

We said: let’s spend three days in France, fill a container, and fill this restaurant. Let me call my brother, Matty Cruise @corbincruise , to do the bar. Let’s have Lukasz @saintt88 spin his magic on the contracting.

And here we are. Croft @croftalley — an all-day café at Prince and 6th. I think we may have achieved our goals, and most importantly, created a place inspired by Central Perk. 📷 @a_gaut by @billycotton

Was an honor to work on the continued restoration and careful interventions of the Harold Levitt house in Beverly Hills, featured today in T Magazine (@tmagazine). Trousdale Estates has long been a showcase of midcentury Los Angeles, a place where architecture, landscape and light defined a new way of living. This project was about honoring that spirit and allowing Levitt’s work to remain the star of the show.
The decoration was conceived as a reaction to the idea of collecting, a return to decoration in total harmony with its surroundings. None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary talent and collaboration of our builder Harris-Anderson. Our decade-long relationship with him has grown into the opening of our new Los Angeles office.

In the summer of 2019, I received a call I’ll never forget: Ralph Lauren wanted me to apply to be the Creative Director of their home business. Instantly, memories of childhood trips to the Chestnut Hill Mall flooded back—Ralph Lauren had always loomed large in my imagination.

I called my longtime design partner @jonpastir—the yin to my yang in creating objects—and he said, let’s do it. Soon we were in Mr. Lauren’s office, presenting a book of our work filled with photographs, design, and even my prized childhood wicker Ralph Lauren sheets. The job was ours.

Then came Covid. What should have been a dream turned into a harsh reality of Zoom calls from my garden shed. But together, Jonathan and I designed countless objects we’re deeply proud of.

As we turn the page to our next chapter, it feels important to honor this one.  This slideshow represents images from our presentation to Mr. Lauren, the Covid office space, our inspiration model, and a small selection of the products we designed.
