Arthur Waller of Sacramento, CA, passed away peacefully on April 26 in his home, surrounded by loved ones. Born in early October of 2013 in rural Arkansas, Arthur had a rough puppyhood as the smallest in a pack of wild dogs. He was shot by a bb gun, which instilled in him a lifelong hatred of little boys and loud noises. He was found by Rose in late 2013, full of worms, starving, and terrified. She nursed him back to health and drove him out to California for a better life.

In April of 2014, Juniper adopted Arthur in Forestville, CA. He roamed free much of the time and took to domesticity very gradually. He loved exploring the Russian River and hiking all day in the redwoods. When they moved to Davis in the fall of that year, and later to Sacramento, Arthur learned to be a city dog and appreciate long walks through the neighborhood.

Always a “dog’s dog”, Arthur loved going to the dog park and hanging out with dog friends. He could befriend even the most antisocial dogs, meeting them where they were at with patience and compassion. With people, on the other hand, he was extremely selective. He kept his inner circle small, but was endlessly devoted to those he let into it.

Arthur accompanied Juniper on countless adventures over the years. They road-tripped to Salt Lake City, Portland, and LA, and to many other places in between. He was a very athletic dog, excelling at wrestling, running, and swimming. He loved nothing more than long walks at his favorite river spot, Sailor Bar in Fair Oaks, where he could roam off leash, and swim for sticks Billy would throw him.

When Juniper met Billy in late 2016, Arthur loved him right away. He was present for the formation of The Gold Souls, and supported the band through many ups and downs.

When Billy proposed in 2022, Arthur was present, and overjoyed, sprinting back and forth along the river bank at sunset.
