The park is gearing up for the annual New Year's Eve event! Please be aware that the park will be closed to the public starting on Monday morning, December 15th. Our Visitor Center, Restrooms, and Map Plaza on the south side of the park will still be open until Tuesday, December 30th.

After the event concludes in 2026, there will be additional closures taking place throughout the year for a large-scale renovation project, focused on repairs to the River Fountains, Carillons, and other features of the park. Please stay tuned for more updates and information. by @bimalltnsp

Want to learn how to rock climb amid gorgeous Tennessee fall colors? Join us for an outdoor climbing program!

Next Wednesday, October 29th, we'll have an informational session at 6:00 pm at Bicentennial. We'll discuss what gear is needed for a good climb, how to set up and climb a route, and answer any rock climbing questions you may have. Then, on Saturday, November 1st, we'll go to a partner park and put our new skills to use.

July is River, Lake, and Stream Cleanup Month!

While Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park no longer has any natural waterways that flow through it, the park owes its existence to the historic French Lick. The French Lick was a natural salt lick and spring that attracted wildlife, European Fur traders, and Native Americans to the area. In 1714, French fur traders established a permanent settlement in the area of what is now the State Capitol. The area continued growing for the next 270 years until the Capitol was surrounded by skyscrapers on 3 sides, leaving only the North side exposed. Due to the soft ground in the area of the French Lick, no large buildings could be built on the land.

In 1985, it was decided that this area would be preserved, and the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park was born! In 1996, the park was officially opened to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Tennessee's statehood.

Waterways are still a vital part of Tennessee’s history, ecology, and social heritage; it's our responsibility to keep them clean and preserved for future generations. Join one of our sister parks for a river cleanup as part of the Go Green initiative to preserve our natural world. We invite you to come out and see our beautiful park, including our McNairy Spring Statehood Monument, which commemorates the French Lick once in this area. #GoGreen by @bimalltnsp

As we wrap up National Pollinator Week, we'd like to remind everyone of pollinators' importance and the threats they face. Pollinators are necessary to pollinate approximately 75% of the world’s flowering plants, and 35% of the world’s agricultural crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce. When most people think of pollinators, they likely think of bees. While they are important, there are numerous types of animal pollinators. Lesser-known pollinators such as butterflies, moths, ants, bats, and birds also contribute to animal pollination. All these species face ongoing threats of habitat loss, diseases, parasites, and environmental contaminants.
One way we can help is by spreading awareness about pollinators' importance. To provide a sustainable habitat and educate the public, Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park recently replanted our urban pollinator garden, and we invite you to come learn about its importance. This project is one way in which we support the Tennessee State Parks Go Green initiative, and we encourage everyone to come out and learn more! by @bimalltnsp
