Grids are the backbone of every Revit project! Here’s how to set them up efficiently:

1️⃣ Activate the Grid Tool
Go to Architecture → Grid or use the shortcut GR.

2️⃣ Draw Your Grids
Place your initial gridlines in the plan view.

3️⃣ Copy Gridlines Quickly
Type CC on your keyboard to duplicate grids where needed.

4️⃣ Create Horizontal Grids
Press Esc to exit the copy tool, then GR again to draw horizontal grids.

5️⃣ Adjust Grid Lengths
Click the blue dot at the end of a gridline to extend or shorten it.

6️⃣ Use the Elbow Tool
Bend gridlines around obstacles without redrawing the entire line.

✨ Pro Tip: Keep your grids clean and organized—it makes every floor plan and section easier to read and work with!

💡 Save this reel as your quick grid checklist!

🏙️ Model Surroundings in Revit (In-Place Mass Tool)
Quick, clean context for shadows, scale, and design presentation.

1️⃣ Go to 3D View → Massing & Site → In-Place Mass
Starts a new mass inside your project—perfect for quick surroundings.

2️⃣ Set the Base Level
Keeps footprints aligned with your site ground plane.

3️⃣ Use “Pick Lines” tool to trace footprints
Speeds up the process—click existing lines instead of redrawing.

4️⃣ Select shape → Create Form → Solid Form
Turns 2D outlines into 3D blocks.

5️⃣ Modify temporary dimension
Type in the exact height so buildings match real scale.

6️⃣ Change Visual Style to “Shaded” (Optional)
Makes masses easier to read; you can also add transparency.

7️⃣ Add Mass Floors (Optional)
Pick levels if you want quick areas or schedules.

8️⃣ Check Properties
Find all key settings here for later edits.

✨ Pro Tip: Keep context subtle so your design stays the focus.

📍 Want your Revit project to sit on the real map? Here’s the workflow:

1️⃣ Open Google Maps & locate your site
→ Start with real-world context so your site isn’t floating in a blank page.

2️⃣ Pick a reference building & measure it
→ A known distance (street width, building edge, etc.) will become your scaling anchor.

3️⃣ Take a screenshot (Snipping Tool = Win+Shift+S)
→ Capture only what you need, keeping your file light and focused.

4️⃣ Import the image into Revit (Insert > Image)
→ Bring the map into your Site Plan so you can work on top of it.

5️⃣ Draw a line of the real measurement
→ This gives Revit a “scale bar” to calibrate your map.

6️⃣ Use Modify > Scale tool
→ Click first point, second point, then type the real distance → your map is now true size.

7️⃣ Start tracing outlines
→ With the map scaled, you can trace property lines, buildings, and streets directly for quick, accurate context.

✨ Why this matters: Scaling the map ensures your context isn’t just visual — it’s measurable, so you can trust it for massing and site design.

🎯 Property Lines in Revit – Mastering Site Boundary
Learn how to accurately trace and tag site boundaries using Revit 2026. This step-by-step guide shows you how to go from a simple PDF to a fully customizable property line with proper annotations.

📍 Steps Covered in This Video:
1️⃣ Import PDF – Start by dragging your site plan PDF into Revit. This will serve as a reference.
2️⃣ Massing & Site > Property Lines – Use the Property Lines tool to begin defining your site boundary.
3️⃣ Enter Coordinates – Fill in the table with distances and bearings (in a clockwise direction), referencing your PDF for accuracy.
4️⃣ Place Property Lines – Click to position the completed boundary at your desired site location.
5️⃣ Annotate > Tag by Category – Select this tool and click on your property lines to begin labeling them.
6️⃣ Find Property Line Tag – In the Project Browser, go to Families and search for "Property Lines" to locate the tag family.
7️⃣ Edit the Family – Right-click and choose Edit to customize the tag’s appearance.
8️⃣ Modify Tag Text – Select the text in the family editor and go to Edit Type to adjust size, orientation, or parameters.
9️⃣ Adjust Parameters – Tweak the settings (e.g., font size, alignment) to match your visual preferences.
🔟 Load into Project – Load your customized tag family back into the project for use.
1️⃣1️⃣ Tag Again – Use the updated tag style to re-label your property lines consistently.

🛠️ Whether you're working on urban plots or hilly terrain, mastering property lines helps you maintain precision and professionalism in your site plans.

🎬 Label Contours with One Click in Revit 2026

Contour lines show elevation, but without labels — they don’t say much.
If you're working on site plans, grading, or presentations, adding contour labels is essential for clarity and documentation.

Here’s how to do it fast in Revit 2026:

1️⃣ Go to Massing & Site > Label Contours
2️⃣ Draw a line across the toposolid — Revit snaps labels to contour lines automatically
3️⃣ Adjust graphics like leader line length or placement (optional)
4️⃣ Use Type Properties to change font, units, or add a prefix/suffix

✅ That’s it. Clean, readable elevation data in seconds.

Shaping Land in Revit – Part 2: Using Voids

Want more precise control over your terrain cuts in Revit? In this method, we use Void Forms to sculpt the land and even calculate the excavation volume. Here’s how:

1️⃣ Start in an elevation view and create a new level at the height where the cut should happen.
2️⃣ Head to Massing & Site > In-Place Mass to begin.
3️⃣ Before drawing, make sure “Draw on Work Plane” is enabled, then set the Work Plane to the level you just created — this keeps your void aligned and predictable.
4️⃣ Draw the shape that defines your cut.
5️⃣ Select it, then choose Create Form > Void Form to convert it into a cutting volume.
6️⃣ (Optional) Switch to 3D view for better visualization — or stay in plan view if you prefer.
7️⃣ Use the Cut Geometry tool: click the toposolid first, then the void to apply the cut.
8️⃣ Finally, select the void again to view the excavation volume in its properties — a powerful way to quantify your site interventions.

📌 This approach gives you clean, defined terrain cuts perfect for embedded structures or landscaping work.
