IN THIS ISSUE… We talk to critic, podcaster and zinester Chloe Maveal (Gutter Review, Trash Humper Zine, 2000 AD Thrill-Cast) about Eddie Campbell’s watershed work GRAFFITI KITCHEN (Tundra, 1993). We talk found family, literary vs conversational storytelling, and messy messy (messy!) relationships. A comic that’s about the chaotic times and sexual side quests of a hungry 20-something artist in search of himself, Chloe and I both had a lot to say about this one!

IN THIS ISSUE… We talk to cartoonist Ryan Cecil Smith (S.F., Style & Fashion Zine) about a comic we both love a lot: Giant THB #1.v.2 (2003) by Paul Pope (100%, Battling Boy, Batman Year 100). This oversized slab of science fiction adventure comics is—no pun intended—a big one for both Ryan and I. We discuss the publication history of THB, what makes a good floppy comic vs a collection, designing for print, and give lots of unsolicited advice to Paul. It’s all love, baby!

In case you missed it, I’m back at the podcast thing again—my pod IN THIS ISSUE… has returned and it has joined the modern world, with a video component on YouTube to complement the audio only version available via RSS in your favorite podcatcher.

Popped in to Rose City Comicon for a couple hours last week. I always forget that these shows are basically just bootleg drop ship fidget spinner festivals with a side of craft fair. Even Artist Alley is basically just a print/merch rodeo with some comic books thrown in. Doesn’t really give the “comic con” vibe to me tbh.

Luckily @tasteecatcomics was one of the few dealers there and they were doing 70% off marked price, which put these in my price range.

I meant to go back and take another pass at the booth, since this was really just pulls from like 3 longboxes, but I got lost in the crowd coming back from checking out AA and had a headache by then, so I just bailed. #bincrawling by @bincrawlr
