EPIC has become exceptionally special to me over the past two years because it’s a way that my younger sister and I have really connected, with us texting after each new saga drop to compare favorites or listen together. I cried when the final saga dropped at Christmas because 1) it was beautiful and 2) it was an end to this ritual I’d had with my sister. My sister graduated from college in May, and I knew I wanted a way to commemorate this shared experience.

Then I met @kenzies_compendium_collection , who had a similar connection with EPIC with her husband. And thus this project and friendship began! We challenged ourselves to learn Affinity to create our typeset from scratch, and boy did that kick butt 😅 I didn’t exactly make it easy on myself, though, using more than 45 Public Domain art pieces and 91 character art pieces from 11 different artists and their Epic Animatics. I emailed each artist explaining this project and asking for permission, and when I tell you that this community was the most kind and supportive… Many went and found the files of the images I asked for, a good number gave permission to remove the backgrounds myself, and a couple gave permission through artist policies listed on their social medias. I tried to be respectful of the art and artists in all cases, and I am just overwhelmed with gratitude for their willingness to share their art in this way. Thank you! (All artists are tagged in the image of the spread that shows their art. It was so hard to pick just 20 images, as there is so much more art not captured in this post). I would especially like to shout-out Rosarix, who was so supportive that they created the Athena Helmet image custom for this project!

I made 3 copies of this book: one for my sister, one for Kenzie, and one for myself (which I will gladly relinquish to @jayherrans should he want the copy 😉). All for personal use, no $$ exchanged. Go follow the artists! Their work is amazing. #epicthemusical by @bind.and.unwind

Trash Panda Exchange: The Jimothy Edit! 🦝 🗑️

This exchange hosted by @bind.and.unwind and @thedabblingshepherdessbindery is all about embracing our imperfect binding creations and giving them a loving home. We tend to hold ourselves to such high standards while sharing binds and this is an invitation to resist ditching a bind just because it isn’t flawless. There is so much to learn in this hobby, so let’s practice giving ourselves grace and finish up those abandoned projects - after all, one persons trash is another’s treasure! 🗑️ 💎

🌊Epic: Lyrical Book

This is my contribution to the #AnEpicExchange. I had so much fun working on this again! I decided to go “retro” and gift @goodgoblinbindery my original version that I had created as a gift for my sister for her graduation. It had all the personal elements I’d made for my sister, and it was sweet to be able to share a slightly more personal version of this design.

I’m forever grateful for @kenzies_compendium_collection and @towns_end_bindery for responding to my random DM with this exchange idea. So grateful for your partnership as incredible co-hosts! Shout-out also to the exchange group chat for sharing so many niche and amazing memes and videos. I found my people, y’all!

The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff

🐦‍⬛I’m so in love with this series that I had to make a second design for them! Seriously the best series I’ve read… maybe ever.

🐦‍⬛ Printable canvas covers with art by Kim Diaz Holm, found on Wikimedia. Wooqu bookcloth in “glitter black”. Vinylfrog HTV in red, blue, and gold metallic. Satin attached ribbon bookmarks with silver charms from Michael’s.

🐦‍⬛Still getting the hang of sprayed edges, but it was fun to practice a new aspect of bookbinding!

🐦‍⬛Final photo features my (not so) very helpful assistant 😻

Aaand that’s a wrap! 🦝🎉

🗑️These are my contributions to the #TrashPandaExchange hosted by @thedabblingshepherdessbindery and myself. It was both our first times hosting an exchange, so huge shout to everyone who joined us on this adventure! This community is filled with the nicest, most creative people, and I feel so honored to be a part of it.

🗑️For this exchange, I made and sent two perfectly imperfect binds to @amessinpictures. This TJ Klune duo was full of ✨unexpected✨elements, but they were also both made with a lot of heart.

🗑️Under The Whispering Door features art by Venessa Kelley. I originally made her this bind, but the dimensions were so wonky that I started over and gave her a “better” copy, but this one is still special. I attempted by first double-core endband, used my own marbled papers, and used my foil pen to hand-foil the gold stars on the cover.

🗑️House in the Cerulean Sea also features art by Venessa, this time featured as inserts printed on transparencies. Venessa also has a “better” version of this bind, but this design is still one of my favorites.

🗑️Finally, I tried out a new skill during the period of this exchange (aka I took a single class and said yup, full send on that hobby), which was Lino carving, so I tried carving a stamp and used it to make some post cards to commemorate this exchange, which was the first exchange for a lot of participants!

⭕️ The Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker

⚫️This trilogy was one my mom and I both read while I was in high school. Her copies were completely falling apart, so I snagged them the last time I was home to give them a make-over. The spine was really wonky, so they still retained some ✨character✨even after the rebind.

🔴 I used bookcloth from Hollanders and vinyl from Vinyl Frog and Tvinyl Warehouse.

Recent adventures in marbling. These pictures are from my first few times marbling with fluid acrylics (as opposed to marbling dye from Pro Chemical and Dye), so please share all your tips/tricks! 🥰

🔴 All Of Our Demise by Amanda Foody and C. L. Herman (All Of Us Villains Duology - book 2)

⚪️ Cover uses the public domain art titled “Maannacht Centraal Museum” (1873), which I modified in Canva and Procreate and printed on book cloth and sealed with matte acrylic sealer to prevent scratching. The title and quotes are cut from opal heat transfer vinyl, which has some shimmer to look like common magic. I added cotton red endbands, as well as red ribbon bookmarks to be the color of high magick. Hand marbled endpapers are by a local LA artist.

🔴 Instead of charms, I sewed in rings with opal gems to look like to spell rings from the story.

⚪️ Please send me your printable canvas tricks, because I struggled! Many attempts were scrapped to bring this (mostly fine) rebind to life. by @bind.and.unwind
