“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”

to my wonderful, amazing, beautiful sister. I don’t say this enough, but the greatness within you is so truly special and inspiring. Even though I’m the big sister, there are so many things you’ve taught me in this life, and so many lessons I’m still learning because of you. Never forget the uniqueness that makes you, you, and the beauty that is your heart and mind.

There are moments when the people you love are enduring things, and all you want is to take that weight for them. Education is deeply important to us, especially because our parents didn’t have the opportunities or resources to get theirs. Watching my sister face obstacles in getting hers is incredibly hard, and I want to do everything I can to help her continue her journey, to make sure her dreams are never put on hold.

Because the beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you, anything you can give to help her continue her education will mean the world. her future, her dreams, and her voice are priceless. Anything will be deeply appreciated ♥️

Thank you God because now I’m a Spelman Woman. Thank you because now the dreams little me has set are in action. Thank you for the nights I cried but still kept going, For the strength to rise when I felt like folding.
Thank you for the sisterhood that shaped my voice, For giving me purpose, and not just a choice. For the lessons, the growth, the love, the tears, For molding my courage through these four years.
Now I walk forward, bold and unshaken, Carrying every step that’s been taken. Spelman lit the fire, now I’ll carry the flame Forever a woman, proud of my name.

Such simple pictures, yet they hold so much weight.

If freshman-year Bintou were in the audience, she would be in awe. I came through the gates with so many goals and aspirations, but most importantly, with the desire to leave as an impactful woman. A woman who carries power in her words, truth in her voice, and security in the artist that she is. A woman who can look at herself and know that she is enough. A woman whose light shines through her art.

We did just that. I am just that.
