River Ranch, the David McLay Kidd design 20 minutes from the Tri-Cities airport in Washington, is a work in progress. But the progress is real. The 15th, for example, is taking shape. For a short video series on the design of this hole as well as an ongoing docuseries on “Raising River Ranch,” go to riverranchgolf.com.

What was first a long par 3 has evolved into a short 4.

From behind the 6th green, a shortish par 3.

The first thing you’ll see as you drive into the property is a peek at the 10th green.

From behind the 18th green. The home hole will be a long 4 back to the clubhouse, which will also overlook the river.

Stay left as you navigate the 16th, a par 5.

The second runs along the irrigation lake.

The approach to the 8th, a par 4.

The green for the 8th is tucked into the base of the ridge.

A good view from behind the 7th green. This lower piece of the property is where you’ll play 5 thru 8.

The 5th will be a drivable par 4 where you’re encouraged to play it out to the right and have it kick left and onto the green.

The 12th is a short 3 with a lot of teeth.

You’ll play the 4th, another short 3, right before you drop into the lower part of the property.

The 13th, a par 5 which straddles the dry wash that runs to the river, is one of the last to be grassed.

The approach to the 3rd, a par 5, is easy on the eyes. You’re going to love the options you have to hit this green in 2.

Another look at the approach to the 18th with the look at the clubhouse being built behind it. And beyond that? The front-9.

The 17th is a par 3 in which you’re encouraged to play left and have it funnel onto the green. (That’s the 15th green top-right.)

Crazy Mountain Ranch, at the base of the Crazy Mountains in Montana, is simply spectacular. Especially, as Bill Coore says, “if you’re wanting to build a ski resort.” But what if you were scouring the 18,000 acres for a golf course? That was the question from Sam Byrne that led Coore to start wandering. And wandering. And then he wandered some more. Coore & Crenshaw will go down as one of the greatest architectural teams ever. Crazy Mountain Ranch, about an hour outside of Bozeman, MT, is yet another Coore & Crenshaw masterpiece. Quietly laid on the incredible land that sits at the base of the Crazy Mountains, Bill and Ben did what they do best. It’ll be joined by a par-3 course by @rhebb_and_johns_golf_design, who were part of the crew who built the big course. At the @wmphoenixopen, it’s a “Zero Waste” event. Which means, that this week, nothing coming from this property will make it to a landfill. Everything will be recycled, reused, composted or donated. Coming off a season of 60 HRs and 125 RBIs, @calraleigh, the switch-hitting catcher for the @mariners, got the invite to play the @wmphoenixopen pro-am. He teed it with Jacob Bridgeman and Min Woo Lee and was followed by teammate Bryan Woo. And on 16, he knocked it on the green. The “Big Dumper” delivered. 🎯
