Gaspar Yanga — an Af Ra Ka Prince, brought to New Spain as a POW in 1570. 👑

He'd rather die than be captured. ⛓️💥

He led a group of enslaved people into the nearby hills, where they resisted the attacks of the colonial authorities for decades. 🏔️✊🏿

In 1609, he negotiated with the Spanish crown — and won. 📜🤝

The result: San Lorenzo de los Negros, one of the first free African settlements in the Americas. 🕊️
