The Micro-Prairie! 🌼

This collection of native wildflowers and grasses, serve as a year-round source of food and habitat for the members of our native eco-system. We are focusing on replacing the large river rocks seen in the suburbs of Albuquerque and replacing them with these micro-prairies! This is a great solution for those looking for low maintenance high pay off gardening.

Allow us to transform your property into a living ecosystem that both you, your family, and our beloved native species can enjoy year-round! by @biosusnm

June 7th - Hands Off Our Public Lands!

As the founder of Bio-Sustain New Mexico, it is my commitment to develop social and industry infrastructure that ensures an equitable opportunity for both our clients and our employees and that gives back to the land, rather than taking from it.

Doing so will ensure that our the growth of our regions economy, develop meaningful and well paid jobs, all while giving back to and protecting our local ecosystems.

Thank you @senatormartinheinrich for your effort in fighting back and educating those interests that seek to defile our public lands.

Thank you @nmwilderness for organizing and engaging with our communities!!

Early Spring growth in one of our projects from last year!

This micro garden is seeing entirely new plants such as sage, blue flax, yarrow, and coreopsis pop up this year as our perineal and some annual seeds were given the chance to prosper by not tilling the soil and also allowing the leaves from nearby trees to cover the soil over the winter and early spring.

We are looking for volunteers!🤗

Stay tuned for flower updates 😆 by @biosusnm

Would you like to learn how to harvest New Mexico Native plants?

Herbal Tea such a Navajo – Hopi Tea (Thelesperma Megapotamicum ) grows locally in the southwest and maybe even in your backyard! You can identify it by the golden flower head, tall slender stems, and sandy/dry habitat it thrives in.

Medical benefits: Has anticancer compounds such as Luteolin and Phenylpropanoids. These two compounds inhabit cancer development and isolate active anti-tumor compounds. Local Navajo and Pueblo Tribes also used Thelesperma Megapotamicum agent to improve hematuria, pelvic pain, bladder stones, indigestion, and anuria.

Harvest/Preparation: Summertime is the best time to harvest and can harvest the tea about 2-3 times a summer. To best harvest our tea, we want to cut the stems and leave the root so the plant can continue to grow (like shown in video). You’ll want to gather your stems and starts the drying process. Our best recommendation is to bundle your stems and dry for about 2 days. Or you can dry your tea and create your own tea bags with coffee filters!

Thank you @elizabethbrockk for this incredible post and for sharing knowledge with us all! 🌻 taken in New Mexico by @biosusnm

Did you know morning doves can fly up to 55 miles per hour? They are a common and native species throughout North America. In New Mexico, they are the most populous doves species. Often found in pairs and small groups they are gentle and require extra water! 🐦 by @biosusnm

Help keep our local bird population strong and healthy this winter!❄️

Birds have survived frigid winters for millions of years! Unfortunately, property development has limited their access to native plants that offer food and shelter!

Feeding birds throughout the winter is important and can help maintain populations throughout the year!

Bio-Sustain New Mexico offers Bird Feeder Services for $50 a month! DM for more info!🐦 by @biosusnm

Many birds that appear at bird feeders are not native! What is the affect of supporting these invasive populations? Is it worth it to deprive our native birds from bird feeders just to avoid feeding invasive species? These are questions we are thinking about everyday at Bio-Sustain New Mexico. If this interesting to you or you have knowledge to share, please reach out through DM! 🌻 by @biosusnm
