Rocky Horror Picture Show - Tim Curry - Dr Frank N Furter Multi-Panel Lightbox

After a week of evenings I have just finished this artwork featuring Tim Curry as Dr Frank N Furter in a stained glass style design.

Rather aptly, this is going to be a bit of an experiment in making a larger multi-panel lightbox in 3 sections.

Not sure if it will work.. but we will see..

Very exciting and coming soon! by @birdcagesouthend

It was no secret that Tim Curry grew tired of people asking about Rocky Horror and the lasting cruelty of his life changing stroke in 2012 meant that in the end, he was forced to return to it for the sake of making a living and funding his ongoing care.

But despite his reservations, we adored him as Frank N Furter. It was one of those characters, like Ron Moody as Fagin, where the original actor breaks it for anyone else who takes the part.

His passing is especially sad for me because I think back to my own friends who are no longer with us.. Helen who introduced me to RHPS back in the mid 80's where we would go home after the pub every Friday or Saturday and put the much worn VHS tape of it on.. and my dear best friend Dan another fan.. we put on several very popular pub gig versions of the show in the 90s.. better than Jason Donovan it was said! 🤪 Also dressing up for the show with my Tony and Jeni.. taking the dressing up very seriously making replica costumes.. which even if I cant fit into mine anymore.. we treasure.

Tim was such an inspiration in everything he did. But now hes gone.. and at least no longer in pain and we will remember him forever as Frank, even if it would probably irritate him.. a toast.. to absent friends xx by @birdcagesouthend

The last but one large framed Bowler Hat series print 42" x 30" is stepping out of the studio and on it's way to its new home. It's a one off paper print, as I wont be doing any more so the buyer has really got a one off piece for their new home.. and at a discounted housewarming prezzie type price! Must be heatstroke!

Kinda sad to see it go, but cant be keeping it all.. but the design itself will be rejigged for a lightbox sometime soon by @birdcagesouthend

THE RADIO 1 ROADSHOW

The very first Radio 1 Roadshow took place in Newquay in 1973, hosted by legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ Alan “Fluff” Freeman.

What began as a summer outside broadcast became a defining part of British pop culture. Radio 1 DJs, live music, games, competitions and giveaways brought the station out of the studio and onto beaches and seaside resorts across the UK.

For nearly three decades, the Roadshow became an essential part of the British summer, with huge crowds gathering to see their favourite DJs and hear the latest sounds.

The final Roadshow took place in 1999, bringing an end to an era.

"Lovely Jubbly!" – Handmade Only Fools and Horses Lightbox

Some pieces are simply fun to make, and this was definitely one of them. Some people might think OFAH is old hat now, but I still watch old episodes now and again. I really enjoyed making this and the artwork took me quite some time to complete.

This is my latest handcrafted 'Only Fools and Horses' illuminated lightbox, celebrating four of Britain's most loved comedy characters – Del Boy, Rodney, Grandad and Uncle Albert – in my vintage British pop culture style.

The cabinet has been built to look as though it's lived a few lives itself. Finished in a battered mustard yellow, distressed and aged throughout, it takes its inspiration from Del Boy's well-travelled old suitcase. The sides are packed with little references for fans to discover, including raised DHV 938D Reliant Regal Supervan lettering, Trotters Independent Trading branding, weathered pound notes, Monaco and Miami travel stickers, a Jolly Boys' Outing poster and other hidden nods to the series.

The artwork is permanently printed onto 3mm toughened safety glass, producing a rich, vibrant image by day and a warm nostalgic glow when illuminated. Inside is an energy-efficient warm white LED light, operated by a vintage-style black fabric flex and inline rocker switch.

The lightbox can stand on its fitted rubber feet or be hung on the wall (Optional and Free), making it equally at home in a living room, games room, pub, cinema room or workshop.

Specifications

• Handmade wooden cabinet with distressed vintage finish.
• Toughened safety glass artwork.
• Warm white LED illumination - Economic 10 watt power
• Vintage black fabric braided cable.
• Inline rocker switch.
• Rubber feet fitted.
• Wall hanging ready.
• Approx. 17" H × 13" W × 5" D.

Every mark, scrape and layer of paint has been applied by hand to give the piece the character of something that's been part of the Trotters' adventures for decades.
