🇬🇧 White-throated sparrow & Great shearwater
🇳🇱 Witkeelgors & Grote pijlstormvogel

🇬🇧 Since September 30th, two White-throated Sparrows had been reported at Maasvlakte, a hotspot during autumn migration. On October 1st after finishing work, we jumped in the car and headed out, battling the usual weekday traffic. After about 15 minutes of waiting, both sparrows appeared and began foraging peacefully, completely unfazed by the clicking cameras. Then news came in of a Great Shearwater at Rozenburg, right on our way home! A few final shots of the sparrows, and we were off again. At the Nieuwe Waterweg, the bird was just a distant speck in the current, visible through binoculars but too far away for decent photos.
Glenda came up with a clever plan: move the car further along for a better view. It worked perfectly, and I managed to capture some lovely shots of this magnificent seabird.
What a way to end the day and the weekend hasn’t even started! Autumn migration is well underway, and the best is yet to come!
