The village is coming back. 🤍

I’m deeply honoured to see BirthSense featured in The Untapped 30 — a recognition of the work I’m doing to help build the village that India’s new parents have been missing.

Because preparing for birth is about so much more than knowing what to expect. It’s about feeling informed, supported and held — through pregnancy, birth and the transformative journey into parenthood.

In this conversation, I share why I started BirthSense, what I’ve learnt about fear and preparation, why fathers are more ready to step into this journey than we often imagine, and why postpartum care and matrescence deserve so much more attention.

🚩 Red flags when choosing a hospital for birth

Choosing a hospital isn’t just about the room, the facilities, or the doctor’s reputation. It’s also about understanding how they approach birth.

Before you choose, ask:

👩‍🍼 Can you have a birth companion with you throughout your labour and birth?
⏰ Do they routinely induce at 38 or 39 weeks without a clear medical reason?
🩸 Are they open to delayed cord clamping?
✂️ Do they avoid routine episiotomies and follow current evidence?

If the answer to these questions is consistently no, it may be worth asking: Is this the right place for the kind of birth care I want?

You don’t have to accept “this is how we always do it.”
Ask questions. Know your options. Choose with information.
