A little #behindthescenes at BCS HQ! This is my little desk setup. I use a new Macbook Air with the m1 chip (thanks @danhawkphotography for the good advice!). It's SO fast and the battery lasts all day. However, the screen is pretty small, so I have a gaming monitor so that I don't get a permanent crease between my eyes. πŸ‘β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

Someone shared this with me recently and I thought it was brilliant. We have a tendency to equate discomfort with having chosen the wrong career path, or that we're not energetically aligned with the work.

The word β€œentrepreneur” originally comes from the combination of two Latin words β€œentre”, to swim out, and β€œprendes”, to grasp, understand, or capture. So...in order to do the work we must swim out! This swimming out is the uncomfy bit.

So the next time you hit a roadblock and feel uncomfortable about the decision laid out before you, ask yourself how this is an act of swimming out. What are you learning? How will you apply it in the future?

In the end, there are no mistakes. Just opportunities for growth and learning. Opportunities to do the right thing, to show vulnerability. To be transparent. To model being human and own your humanness. In my business, this transparency has (perhaps surprisingly) earned me long-lasting client relationships based on trust and mutual affection. Not so uncomfortable after all, in the end. ❀️ by @bishopcontentstudio

As many of you know, last year we moved from Portland, Oregon to Nantes, France! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβž‘οΈπŸ‡«πŸ‡· Last summer as we prepared the move, I felt so worried for my growing little business, in an almost maternal way. Would my clients follow me even though I would no longer be physically present in the US? Would the time difference be too hard? Would people simply write me off??

I told myself, what if all that I had worked so hard to create just...vanishes?

As with so many other unfounded fears and anxieties, none of these things actually happened. Clients didn't freak out about the time difference or the physical distance. Everyone is a Zoom expert nowadays.

I try to be honest and open about my struggle with anxiety and imposter syndrome. I think it's important to normalize those things, as many of us are dealing with this on some level.

But I think it's also important to be vocal about when those beliefs do turn out to be false. A lot of the time, we feel ashamed or silly for having been so worried in the first place. We brush it under the rug and pretend those worries never existed. I don't want to do that, hence this post.

I can't say that I have suddenly let go of all those fears. Owning a small business can feel scary. Pushing yourself to scale and delegate and otherwise act in a thoroughly adulty way 24/7 is exhausting.

So what does help to manage the anxiety? For me, it's asking for help from others. Creating a team that supports me and feel supported. When those scary thoughts come up as I'm lying in bed at night (what Elizabeth Gilbert calls "horizontal thinking"), I try to take lots of deep breaths and focus on a calming scene. Long walks. Yoga. Spending time with Alex.

It's not perfect, but as far as works in progress go, I feel like a good one. ❀️

Is your branding is consistent across your website, social media and marketing materials?? This is super important for brand recognition, even if you are a #servicebasedbiz! Here are some questions to ask and find out:

βœ”οΈ Do you have less than two fonts, and do use use those same fonts consistently across all your designs?
βœ”οΈ Do you have three primary brand colors?
βœ”οΈ Does your brand have one primary (main) color?
βœ”οΈ Do the colors and themes reflected in your images and icons show consistency in color and style?

It's really easy to play around in Canva and get creative with their sexy templates, and end up with branding that is super inconsistent. Hey, we've all been there. *Squirrel!* Committing to a set header and sub-header font, image style and colors is key. πŸ”‘β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

My branding has a lot of colors varieties, but the blue and yellow are the dominant colors used primarily through my branding. While I do use more colors than most, but I am careful to stay consistent and always use the same styling and fonts! It's all about balance and consistency. ❀️ by @bishopcontentstudio

This is just down the street from my house: the "Wall of Kindnesss". Someone created a spot where you can leave or take a coat if you are in need. Such a sweet idea! As a former professional organizer (and Portlander), this made me smile. ❀️ by @bishopcontentstudio

You guys. This is somewhat hard to admit as a shiny digital marketing person but I'm gonna do it: posting visibly on social media is HARD.

Don't get me wrong. I manage a lot of social media pages for other people. At this point, writing captions and working with Lindsey to create post graphics is like a well oiled-machine. We are on it, GOOD at it, and it's actually a lot of fun. ❀️

But here's the thing. Doing it for your own business? Totally different story.

First, it's just tough to be out there being present: showing your face, sharing expertise and being visible with your message. The little voice inside says "nobody cares, you're going to bore everyone."

It's like that for many of my service-based businesses clients too. We're here to help others because we know what it feels like to be stuck or scared or unsure. We've gone through that and come out the other side and want to help others see the light too. We have a message to share, but that doesn't mean it comes naturally to be visible.

So if you offer a service to others and you are having a hard time with your social media, remember to be kind to yourself. Remind yourself of why you started this business in the first place. If your goal is to help others, focus your social media efforts on continuing to do just that. By being transparent, present and active on social media, you are helping the people who really NEED you to 𝘧π˜ͺ𝘯π˜₯ you!

This is Aimee Bloom, a Professional Organizer in the Portland area. I first met Aimee at a @napooregon meeting aaages ago. She was just starting her organizing business and we hit it off right away. One of the first things you notice about Aimee is her absolutely gorgeous and infections smile. She just lights up a room.
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
The next is how genuinely kindhearted and giving she is. This woman is so passionate about helping people who are struggling with clutter and subsequent hopelessness as a result of feeling so stuck. She is gentle, kind and always humble. Aimee has an incredible heart and I'm so thankful that I get to work with her.

I feel honored to be her web designer and social media manager. If you are in the Portland area and you need organizing support, Aimee is a great resource for you. ❀️ More info on how we helped Aimee + a link to her website is in my bio. taken in Portland, Oregon by @bishopcontentstudio
