sometime in May of 2008, i adopted Lacey for $25. i was 15 and she was 11 months old. we were best friends from the very first day. she taught me how to love unconditionally. she taught me how to take care of something that wasn’t myself. she taught me true responsibility. she watched me learn how to drive. she watched me graduate high school and college. she watched me get my first job. she was there for every failed relationship and she healed every broken heart she didn’t break. she traveled with me to 5 countries and 9 states. everywhere i went, there she was. she never left my side. she was there for all the best moments, and she never failed to show up for me during the worst.

in summer of 2022 Lacey began having health issues that we could not find a cause for. she experienced very rapid muscle wasting/weight loss and a some nebulous neurological issues that progressed over time. during this last year and a half of her life we somehow grew even closer. she taught me patience. she taught me how to care even more deeply for something that wasn’t myself. she taught me sacrifice. she let me see just how far i was willing to go for the things i love most. for the last 2 months of her life she could not walk at all. we still went everywhere together, i just had to carry her. i didn’t mind. i made sure she knew she was loved. i planned my days and nights around her needs.

on January 17th, 2024, Lacey went to be with God. she passed in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by love, with a belly full of Hershey’s chocolate and chicken wings from wing stop. she was loved every second of every day. she will continue to be loved until i join her and i will miss her every day for the rest of my life. thank you all for loving her with me for all these years. 🤍
