From a $100 grill to owning his own barbecue restaurant. 🔥 Tay Nelson didn’t start out planning to become a pitmaster or restaurant owner. He learned barbecue by watching YouTube videos, experimenting, and putting in the work. Today, he and his wife Sarah are behind @eatbobbys in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. But there’s a lot more to his story than brisket and ribs. We talk about family, sacrifice, entrepreneurship, teaching others, and what it really takes to build a barbecue business. 🎙️ Catch the full conversation on the Black Smoke Barbecue Podcast. 📺 Watch on YouTube — link in bio. 🙏🏾 Special thanks to our sponsors @exhibitsupply and @hardercharcoal for keeping the fire burning! #BobbysBarbecue #WholeHog #BBQ #Barbecue #SouthCarolina by @bkccooks
WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING TO BARBECUE? 🔥 We’ve all seen it. Restaurants closing their doors. Menu prices climbing. Portions changing. And barbecue spots that have been part of their communities for years struggling to stay afloat. But what’s really behind it? Is it the rising cost of meat? Labor? Rent? Utilities? Insurance? Or are we reaching a point where customers simply can’t afford to eat out the way they used to? The reality is, both sides are feeling the pressure. Behind every plate of barbecue is a business trying to pay its employees, cover rising expenses, remain profitable, and keep its doors open. On the other side are customers dealing with rising living expenses of their own, making tougher decisions about where and how often they spend their money. So where do we find the balance? How can barbecue restaurants remain profitable while still delivering the quality, portions, and value their customers expect? And what needs to change to help these businesses continue thriving in our communities? 🎙️ We’re bringing together two restaurant owners from two different markets for this conversation: 🔥 Tay Nelson — @eatbobbys | Fountain Inn, SC 🔥 Chef Dominique Leach — @lexingtonbettysmokehouse | Chicago, IL In a few weeks, they’ll join Black Smoke Barbecue Podcast for an honest conversation about the real cost of doing barbecue business today, the challenges they’re facing, and what it takes to keep moving forward. BUT BEFORE THAT CONVERSATION, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! 👇🏾 Restaurant owners, pitmasters, food truck operators, and barbecue lovers — what are you seeing in your communities? What do you think needs to happen for barbecue businesses and their customers to thrive together? 👇🏾 Drop your thoughts in the comments. We want to hear from BOTH sides, and your perspective may help shape our upcoming conversation. 🎙️ Coming soon from Black Smoke Media. #Barbecue #Brisket #Restaurant #FoodTruck #TexasBBQ by @bkccooks

🔥 HONDO, WE’RE COMING BACK! Last year at the @openfiremeatup , we captured incredible food, unforgettable moments, and conversations that reminded us why we do what we do. From the people behind the pits to the stories behind the smoke, Hondo delivered a little bit of everything. Great food, great people, and a whole lot of barbecue culture. 🎥🔥 Now, Black Smoke Media is headed back! Al and Brandon will be on the ground Thursday through Saturday, bringing the mobile studio back to the action and sitting down with some incredible people to hear their stories. 👋 If you’re attending the MeatUp, come find us! Stop by the tent, swing through the mobile studio, say hello, and let’s talk barbecue. We’ve got some great stories coming out of this year’s event, and we can’t wait to share them with you. A special thank-you to @jeffreydeponte and the team at @exhibitsupply for supporting our mobile studio and helping us bring these conversations to life. We appreciate the partnership! Because at the end of the day, it’s about more than what’s cooking. It’s about the people, the culture, and the stories behind the smoke. See you in Hondo! 🤠🔥 #BlackSmokeMedia #OpenFireMeatUp #BBQ #Barbecue #OpenFireCooking by @bkccooks

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, grateful for everyone who has supported the journey, and just getting started. We’re about 700 subscribers away from 10,000 on YouTube. If you believe in what we’re building, help us get there. The vision is bigger than the numbers. But every subscriber counts. Follow the journey. Subscribe to Black Smoke Media on YouTube. Just because the seasons change doesn’t mean the rules do. 🍂🔥 This is your annual reminder: DO NOT BOIL YOUR RIBS! 😂🍖 We understand this practice is still tolerated in certain parts of North Carolina, but the rest of the barbecue community has questions. 🤣 Be honest... are you boiling ribs before putting them on the grill, or are we calling the authorities? 🚨 #BBQ #Barbecue #Ribs #BBQLovers #NorthCarolina by @bkccooks
