A DJ made music from melting Arctic ice. Scientists brought live microorganisms from the Gowanus Canal. And outside, a nor’easter was bearing down on New York City.

That was “FLOODLINES,” an unconventional night combining art, science and climate research at Pioneer Works in Red Hook.

Inside, visitors tracked flooding in real time, learned about ways to make public housing more flood-resilient and heard from artists and scientists.

Outside, the storm was well on its way. Just hours later, the nor’easter flooded parts of Red Hook and knocked out power for tens of thousands of New Yorkers.

A new modular restroom has opened in Downtown Brooklyn’s Columbus Park — but you only get 10 minutes to do your business.

Then the doors open, ready or not. 😳

Users receive two warnings before the doors open, but the 10-minute limit has raised concerns about how the timer could affect elderly and disabled users, parents with children and people with gastrointestinal issues.

“I’m so curious what happens if you go over 10 minutes, does it eject you from the toilet seat and shoot you into the air?” asked one commenter.

Hours of delays, disputed votes and protests marked the Brooklyn Democratic Party’s organizational meeting Wednesday at City Tech.

Proceedings were expected to begin at 10 a.m. but didn’t get underway until around 1:30 p.m. and lasted roughly eight hours. The meeting was plagued by problems with proxy registrations, voter lists and electronic voting clickers, along with disputes over who could vote and whether ballots were accurately counted.

Party members approved controversial rule changes, but the larger battle over who will lead the county party remains unresolved.

A herd of 40 life-size buffalo puppets, followed by thousands of entranced spectators, paraded through Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights and Brooklyn Bridge Park on Saturday.

It was easy to believe the buffalo were alive. The magnificent creatures lumbered, stomped and pawed, at times lunging toward the crowds, while handlers shouted commands in Arabic and Xhosa — a Bantu language — to hold them back.

On Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights, the difference between a coveted storefront and a discounted one can come down to a few steps.

Street-level shops can run as much as $35,000 a month, while spaces that require stairs to access often go for about a third as much.

The unusual retail hierarchy is a product of the neighborhood’s historic architecture, where former brownstones were adapted into shops rather than rebuilt as uniform commercial spaces.

Arick Fudali, the new managing partner at Brooklyn-based firm Bloom/Fudali (@bloomfudali), is no stranger to fighting for justice for victims. With a long career representing Epstein victims, as well as accusers of Kanye West, Diddy, Eric Swalwell, and the Alexander brothers, Fudali (@fudali) has built a national profile through some of the country’s most high-profile cases. The bicoastal firm uses that visibility to advocate for victims of sexual harassment and discrimination wherever these issues exist.

Looking ahead, Fudali says he hopes to use his platform to advocate for change in Brooklyn and beyond, particularly around LGBTQ+ rights.
