I have people ask me all the time what Atlas is and normally I just say old English sheep dog mix since this is a lot to say :). He is also 3% lab.

It's OK to be a beginner
Basically what I'm trying to say in this video is that you're going to mess up; you're going to make mistakes. That's part of being a beginner, as long as you learn from the mistakes and get better.

When I first started working with Atlas it was very difficult to find opportunities to work on proper socialization and work through reactivity so I made a opportunity and it has gone so much better than I could have ever hoped I'm still learning along with every other human being on this planet but nothing could make me happer than helping others.

Don't let your dog off leash if they're not trained. I've seen so many things wear off leash is the like ultimate goal in my opinion a fulfilled happy dog is the ultimate goal. Now there are a couple things I do with Atlas like playing herding games with a lunge line where he'll get tangled up in the leash or I've had situations where it would be easier for him to be off leash and so I am working on him being off leash trained but I'm doing it while he's on a leash. Plus, if a dog is not properly off leash trained doesn't know road boundaries or not to run up to other dogs or people Etc, then it's just as dangerous for your dog as it is for others.

These people were so nice and could not have handled their dogs any better 10 out of 10 interaction honestly. This is what it should look like when you encounter other dog owners. Also incredibly proud of Atlas here he did so well.

A big part of Atlas reactivity is that he is very uncertain of what to do around other dogs and so building his confidence was a big step for me and so seeing how far he comes has come I couldn't be prouder especially since you can tell it startled him but he trusted me enough to not have a big reaction.

Atlas has always been a puller. it's the thing I've struggled with most, other than his reactivity. but it was very useful when we started canicross I didn't even really teach him the pull command he just knew and loves it. So this is your sign to work with your dog not against them.

I thought I could keep the camera steady I was wrong. But this was also our first day working on directional commands and I could not be more proud of him. But whenever I bike he's not allowed to get faster than a trot unless he's in the grass so now he refuses to run on the sidewalk So either I need to start running in the grass not the best option for someone with a history of sprained ankles or figure something else out probably going to start trying to find dirt paths.

Everyone starts somewhere. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is yourself and how far you've come I think that's probably the thing I've learned the most from Atlas and working through his reactivity is the only person you're competing with is you.
