The Abolished PrinceA rogue chapter from a galaxy unknown. He was pushed out of the chapter for his unnatural need for death. Living through the Grimdark landscapes he succumbs to his blood lust and takes on a more demonic frame. Corroded steel claws where once where pristine fingertips were help maul his victims. Breathing apparatus gorged into flesh to enhance breathing for dark environments. He walks alone, through the dark depths lurking for his prey…….And there he is finally done. Really enjoyed this guy from start to finish. A little bit of kit bashing and building textures up prior to priming. That’s a big thing for me as I tend to rush and not think about the bigger picture. I can see a huge difference in taking the time to do these little extra things tho. Iron Warriors Defiler : Scorpius : complete.Some mild conversion work undertaken, primarily relocating the head to the front of his carapace rather than on top, to try and emphasise a more scorpion like silhouette.A kit bashed ranged weapon right arm (made of various parts from the defiler and war dogs kits) along with some extra armour plating on the carapace, some small additions like chains & cables, and finally repositioning the legs to have the defiler look as if it’s crawling downwards from the rubble towards its next victim.The idea was to lean quite heavily into a biomechanical body horror vibe with tortured flesh meeting industrial war machine, plenty of gore, leaking oil from the mechanical joints, rust & decay, verdigris and scorched exhaust ports were all a lot of fun to run through.Painted using a mix of acrylics (primarily @vallejocolors citadel and @monument_hobbies pro acryl) enamels (primarily @akinteractive.official and @ammomig) and oils (abteilung 502)As much as I had a blast painting this, I’m looking forward to tackling something with a lot less metal (and trim) next!Thank you all for looking and I hope you like him!#defiler #ironwarriors #warhammer by @black_chalice_studio

Ushoran, the undying king.Well folks, it’s been almost a year since I last painted a miniature to completion (and 8 months of that time I stepped away from the hobby completely) and man I feel rusty.Lots of room for improvement, plenty of things I could add to, but knowing when to call a piece done rather than keep procrastinating for days or even weeks is a skill in and of itself.My favourite all time warhammer sculpt, and dripping with atmosphere this is the third time I’ve painted the summer king and I had just as much fun (if not more) this time round as the first.Scratch built elements, mixed media, the use of real fur, lots of oil & enamel blending and mottling, physical and implied texture, an absurdly opulent crypt base… the list goes on.Heavily inspired by my deep obsession with all things vampiric, with Nosferatu and Bram stokers Dracula stalking my mind throughout the process.Has this signalled a return to previous form? That is currently unknown, did I have an absolute blast? Seasons tidings to you all! 🖤This year has been a strange one for me when it comes to art.From highs to lows, bursts of insane creativity to complete blocks, it’s been a rollercoaster, an exhausting one, and I’ve reached the point where I need to step off for a while to regain some love for the passion we all share.I’ve met some truly amazing artists, some of which I’ve become good friends with, seen some truly awe inspiring art, pushed my own skills beyond where I thought they could possibly go, and at the same time experienced things that have left me feeling jaded, burned out and flat.Just know that whilst I rarely post, hardly interact and haven’t painted in months I still lurk, admiring the awesome work you guys put out, and I genuinely appreciate the messages of support and encouragement, trying to drag me back.Fear not, for whilst I’m dormant, my mind is ever active, just waiting for the right time to pick up my tools once more and delve back into the darkness!I honestly appreciate every single one of you beyond words, but special mention must be made to @pictornox @grim_and_darker @thepaintingtedd @the_alchemical_brush @light_in_the_dark_studio for being some of the most down to earth, helpful and genuinely decent humans out there! The Bastard Whelps of Calden Keep.The third and final miniature I’ve been chipping away at over the past month and another fantastic sculpt from @theartofrao for @bestiarum.games Such an atmospheric piece, I really wanted to capture the essence of a once proud warrior turned feral, bestial and monstrous.Painted using mixed acrylics (primarily @vallejocolors and citadel) @akinteractive.official enamels and abteilung oils.I really enjoyed this piece and may end up painting the rest of the Calden Keep set! by @black_chalice_studio

The Exiled Penitent.Another fantastic sculpt from @bestiarum.games with strong dark fantasy vibes, this guy sat on my bench alongside the amalgam getting a little bit of attention every few days here and there until I managed to finish him today.Painted using mixed acrylics (primarily @vallejocolors and citadel) @akinteractive.official enamels and abteilung oils.I can feel myself slowly slipping back into the painting groove so expect plenty more like this soon! by @black_chalice_studio

Trench Crusade Amalgam complete.Well… 4 weeks away from the bench will certainly make you feel rusty! An hour here, half an hour there was all I could manage over the last month but it’s finally finished, and a lot of fun was had painting this guy up.Sculpted by the immensely talented @akshay.moran the sheer amount of details on this imposing beast are staggering, but they all flow so well and lend themself to a distinctly horror inspired approach.Painted using mixed acrylics (primarily @vallejocolors and citadel) @akinteractive.official enamels and abteilung oils, and the use of the ca glue transparent skin technique which I first saw performed by a true pioneer @scramasaxe91 a few years back and always admired hugely, this has become an increasingly popular technique of late!Now the crazy busy period at work has finished I’ll be moving back to normal operating procedure in the studio, with a bunch of cool minis to paint, videos to produce and commissions to undertake (if any of you would like something commissioned I have very limited space, so dm for enquiries!)Thanks for looking and I hope you like him.If you enjoy this kind of horror focused style and content, be sure to follow, tag and collaborate with the @conclave_obscura to indulge in some of the darkest art out there 🩸 by @black_chalice_studio

Saturnine terminator champion of the Imperial Fists legion.I can’t get enough of these fantastic sculpts by @sedivalle and went for something a little more colourful this time round.As before just a quick run through to keep my brush work honed despite only being able to grab a couple of hours of studio time each week.Some chipping medium, basic airbrush base coats, @ammomig enamels, @akinteractive.official abteilung oils and some pigment powders making for a fun experiment.Thanks for looking and I hope you like him, back to the traitor legions next! by @black_chalice_studio

Still snowed under with work, and that won’t change for at least another month (damn real life getting in the way of my hobby!) but managed to complete another of @sedivalle beautiful saturnine sculpts, this time in the colours of pre heresy world eaters (I may eventually get round to painting one in each of the pre heresy legion colors as these are so nice to work with!)Fairly quick and reserved paint job due to time constraints but it felt good to finish something for a change and I love painting grungy armour!When the busy period calms, expect a return to form with both painting and video tutorials, with some very juicy content coming 🩸Painted using mixed acrylics, @akinteractive.official enamels and abteilung 502 oils.Thanks for looking and I hope you like him! by @black_chalice_studio
