Happy International Day of The Girl Child.✨❤️ The theme for this year is: End child marriage and invest in girls’ rights. But I’m gonna stray away from that a little in this video. This video is the world of so many 8 year olds. . Today, I’m not 23. I’m the 8 year old girl whose right to consent was stolen by adult teachers in her primary school. I’m the 8 year old girl who felt pain while this men felt pleasure. I’m the 8 year old girl who’s speaking for every other 8 year old girls who are going through this same thing or have had to go through it. My silence wasn’t consent, accepting it wasn’t consent, allowing it to go on wasn’t consent. I was an 8 year old child, a minor who couldn’t give consent. So, for the first time, I speak about this publicly. Not for pity, I’m past that. But for awareness, for celebration of the girl child. The girl child in me broke many years ago but this doesn’t have to go on with other girls. . I stand with every other girl child today to say NO TO RAPE, NO TO SEXUAL ABUSE, NO TO INAPPROPRIATE TOUCHING. Girls are not sexual objects or toys! We are humans, flesh, not a tool for the satisfaction of depraved men. And yes! END CHILD MARRIAGE! & INVEST IN GIRLS’ RIGHTS! . . . Picking up the pieces was a random idea that came to me in January and the idea came complete. The dress design, the shredded pantyhose, the broken vases, the flowers, the hair updo, the make up. They were all to tell a story. A story of hope. A story that reminds us that our fractures as a country doesn’t define us. Our brokenness doesn’t mean lifelessness. The flowers represent the bloom to come. Even though they are scattered around now, one day, it’d be a full bloom, greatness and fruitfulness. This is Nigeria. This is our country. We are one people. PICKING UP THE PIECES🇳🇬 A reflection on Nigeria’s fractures, resilience, and the beauty that remains. The shattered vases representing broken systems and interrupted dreams. The green and white flowers; the beauty and potential that survive. The green bubble dress embodies resilience and hope, and the holes in the white pantyhose reflecting peace tested by reality and the evidence of survival. The sprouting plant-inspired hair signifying regeneration and new beginnings, hope for a new Nigeria. Not everything broken is lost. Some things are simply waiting to grow again and perhaps the broken pieces are not the end of the story, but the beginning of a new one.🇳🇬 Picking Up the Pieces is ultimately a story of hope.
