This morning, a reporter from News Nation framed Mike Rogers’ reversal on the Iran war as something Abdul El-Sayed merely “believed.”El-Sayed stopped him: “No. I am saying he did flip-flop. He flip-flopped.”
The facts support this. Rogers previously backed Trump’s war with Iran and argued against limiting the president’s authority to continue the conflict. On Monday, he changed course and said the war “needs to end and end quickly.”
The reporter then tried another premise, suggesting El-Sayed’s 2024 support for the uncommitted vote conflicted with appearing alongside Kamala Harris. El-Sayed again forced the question back to the actual timeline: the uncommitted campaign targeted Joe Biden in the primary while Biden was the presidential candidate; Biden later left the race and Harris became the nominee.
Candidates should absolutely face tough questions. But tough journalism doesn’t require turning documented events into matters of opinion or building questions on premises that leave out basic chronology and fact.

Sunset Speaks ✨

As a Haitian woman, I need to say this unequivocally: I apologize to Foundational Black Americans and to Black Americans who continue to have their history reduced to a stereotype they did not earn.

I will never romanticize being forced to become self-sufficient at eight years old as evidence that another group is lazy. Sometimes what immigrant children call “work ethic” was survival. Sometimes hyper-independence was necessity. And I refuse to use our survival story to diminish theirs.

Black Americans endured generations of enslavement, followed by Jim Crow, disenfranchisement and racial exclusion, while continuing to fight for recognition as human beings in a country their labor helped build. The freedoms Black immigrants like me are able to exercise in America exist in a country profoundly reshaped by those struggles.

I will not inherit the fruit and disrespect the root.

And this perpetual diaspora war? I reject it. Haiti’s revolutionary history deserves its flowers without using 1804 as a weapon against Black Americans. Black American history deserves reverence without diminishing Caribbean or African people. Our histories do not have to compete for significance.

So to my co-hosts Ree and Danielle, and especially to the Black Americans sitting at that table, I apologize for rhetoric that repeatedly asks you to defend a work ethic your history has already demonstrated.

And Da’Vinchi, I would genuinely welcome a conversation. Not comment-section warfare. A table. A real conversation about history, immigration, culture and why this rhetoric continues dividing people who have far more connecting us than separating us.

You cannot call a people lazy while standing in a country their labor helped build.

So I’ll ask you this… 🙋🏾‍♀️ When do we stop allowing diaspora differences to become weapons against one another and start learning each other’s history?

@motherjonesmag Megyn Kelly has been criticizing the Cornell Jane Doe for how she responded after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by multiple men in one night.

But Kelly seems to have forgotten what it feels like to be blamed after coming forward with allegations. Her message ten years ago to survivors sounds quite different than her message today. by @black_unity_af

Don’t believe the news they’re biased and a vehicle for propaganda! The same people that hate us own the news stations, papers, magazines, etc. They control the narrative, images, and stories the release. These same people hate us in real life, that doesn’t change when they go to work. Why would they show us in a good light? They NEVER do. by @black_unity_af
