Y’all who have known me for a while know that I am annoying about The Killers, and I need you to let me go off again for a second. When I was 14, I started loving this band with everything I had, and that love has taken me to so many different places and allowed me to meet some of the best friends I’ve ever had.

Las Vegas isn’t a friendly city—it’s sinful, and hot, and it’ll make your eyeballs feel like the Mojave—but for those who have found their home in The Killers, making the pilgrimage is a dream. I sat in my bedroom at 14, alone and sad, thinking about going to Sam’s Town with my friends, writing on the steps of Battle Born Studios, and being part of the hometown crowd when the bassline of Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine first hits. I never actually thought I’d make it there, but I did. Happy Hot Fuss 20🎉🎂🩸🔪🍒🃏💙

I am so thankful for everything this band has brought me. I have finally seen the lights. (And the Taco Bell cantina) 🏜️🎰

This year was really bad and awful. except for the things that weren’t! so here you go (in chronological order)
1. my perfect little girl
2. friend makes the day easier
3. asheville thru watermelon-colored glasses
4. tame Impala #3 (a traumatic dangerous soggy day but it was worth it) (I think)
5. cat + friends + mosquitos
6. maya :)
7. wading in the Niagara river for a #honeymoon (illegal activity)
8. nashville grime & glitz. a brief reprieve
9. grandpa before ruggiero wedding #2 @ blackwater falls
10. my grandma gave me a tiny christmas cactus (thanksgiving cactus?) years ago and she finally got big enough to bloom this year :)

I will erode a ridge in my phone screen over the next few days swiping back and forth thru these pictures to convince myself I had a survivable year. what a fine life we are living! Thank u :-) by @blackandbluejay

the first time we hiked to an overlook together it was pitch black because we’ve never been good at managing our time. but I could feel the charged empty space in front and below as if I was hanging my toes off of the cliff on a sunny day. it’s survival and anticipation and excitement and a sense of calm (because you have a rock underneath your feet that’s stood still for millennia). a lifetime of summits are ahead. thanks for being my bedrock and moonlight :)
