Annual observance on Sept. 19th celebrating Black autistic joy, honoring lived experiences, uplifting voices, and driving systemic change.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Black Autism Acceptance Day is about making space for all of us 🤎🫶🏽
This day is an opportunity to celebrate Black autistic identity, joy, community, creativity, advocacy, and everything that makes us who we are.
There is no one “right” way to show up.
Maybe you want to post yourself and let the world see your Black autistic joy. Maybe you want to amplify another Black autistic voice. Maybe you want to talk about the barriers and systemic issues that continue to create disparities for Black autistic people. Maybe you want to connect with community, celebrate your accomplishments, create something, rest, or simply exist as yourself.
All of it belongs here.
You don’t have to educate everyone.
You don’t have to explain your existence.
You don’t have to be loud to matter.
You don’t have to accomplish something to be worthy of celebration.
Whether you’re newly discovering your autistic identity, have known for years, are openly autistic, privately autistic, self-diagnosed, formally diagnosed, or still figuring things out you deserve to feel seen, respected, and welcomed 🤎🫶🏽

Due to the overwhelming response and incredible interest from our community, this is now a 2-day virtual event! 🎉
Expanding to two days allows more voices to be heard, more knowledge to be shared, and more time to build community together. We’re grateful for the enthusiasm and excited to create even more space for meaningful conversations.

We’re opening space for something meaningful this September.

In honor of Black Autism Acceptance Day, we’re hosting a 2-day virtual summit centered on Black autistic voices, lived experience, and community knowledge. This is a space for sharing stories, building understanding, and honoring the many ways autism shows up in our communities.

Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in speaking and sharing your lived experience. We were truly inspired by the overwhelming response and are excited to bring together an incredible lineup of voices.

Please share this post with your family, friends, colleagues, and community. We look forward to learning, connecting, and celebrating together this September.

This is a FREE event registration info to attend coming soon 🤎 #Blackautismacceptanceday #Blackandautistic #autismacceptance #autism by @blackautismacceptanceday

Black Autism Acceptance Day | September 19
2026 marks the inaugural observance of Black Autism Acceptance Day, a new movement dedicated to increasing visibility, promoting acceptance, and advancing equity for Black autistic individuals and their families.
Observed each year on September 19, this day highlights the unique experiences of Black autistic people while bringing attention to the disparities that have too often led to delayed diagnoses, misdiagnosis, and unequal access to care and support. It also celebrates the strengths, achievements, and contributions of the Black autistic community.
Founded through the advocacy of Ayanna ‘Phenomenally Autistic’ Davis, Black Autism Acceptance Day is a reminder that acceptance goes beyond awareness. It calls on all of us to create communities where Black autistic individuals are respected, supported, included, and empowered to thrive.
As we recognize this inaugural year, we honor Black autistic voices, challenge stigma, advocate for equitable access to services, and reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive future for everyone 🤎

🖤 THANK YOU FOR SHOWING UP 🖤
As we close out the inaugural Black Autism Acceptance Day, we just want to say THANK YOU
Whether you participated in the summit, shared a post, liked a post, left a comment told a friend, shared a resource or simply took the time to learn more about Black autistic experiences, you helped make this first year something truly special.
The support we received was more than we expected, & we honestly could not have asked for a better inaugural year.
Thank you to every speaker, panelist, storyteller, supporter, family member, advocate, organization & community member who showed up and helped us celebrate Black autistic voices, identity, acceptance, advocacy, & joy.
This is only the beginning.
We’ll see you next year. 🖤
Happy Black Autism Acceptance Day

🖤 Black Autistic Acceptance Day September 19th 🖤 (Google it)

Today we celebrate, affirm, and uplift Black autistic individuals and their families. Black autistic children and adults deserve to be seen, heard, understood, respected, and accepted exactly as they are.

This day matters because autism can look different in every person, and Black autistic individuals and their families can face additional barriers to diagnosis, support, resources, and representation. (Health care discrimination is still very much a thing and gettingeven worse in my opinion.) Acceptance means moving beyond awareness creating spaces where autistic people can thrive, communicate, learn, create, and be fully themselves without having to hide who they are.

Today, I celebrate my son Destin and every Black autistic person whose brilliance, creativity, joy, and differences deserve to be embraced not changed. 🖤♾️

Black autism matters. Black autistic voices matter. Black autistic lives, dreams, and futures matter. by @blackautismacceptanceday

Today (Saturday September 19th) is the first annual Black Autism Acceptance Day. This day was created to celebrate the strengths and contributions of the Black autistic community and encourages all of us to build spaces where Black autistic individuals can feel safe, and are respected, supported and empowered to be their authentic selves.

As an IEP Coach, I acknowledge the cultural bias that exists within our educational system (and beyond). Our Black learners and their families face barriers our white learners do not. This ranges from delayed diagnoses, misdiagnosis to safely navigating special education and gaining meaningful support. If we do not acknowledge this discrepancy in the IEP process, we are perpetuating harm.

One of the first steps that all of us can take is to listen to the experiences and perspectives of Black autistic people and Black professionals within the community. We are so fortunate to be living in a time when we can hear from them firsthand and learn from them. I also encourage you to follow the official account @blackautismacceptanceday to find more people to add to your follow lists.

Today marks the inaugural #BlackAutismAcceptanceDay! Thanks to congressional resolutions introduced by U.S. @repmikelawler (R-NY) and inspiration from advocate Ayanna Sanaa Davis (phenomenallyautistic), Black and autistic individuals have a day when they can celebrate Black autistic joy and community, highlight racial disparities in #autism diagnosis and treatment, and challenge existing biases. As a Black autistic person, I sincerely thank Representative Lawler and Ms. Davis for their advocacy! #AutismAcceptance #AutisticAndBlack by @blackautismacceptanceday
