Meet the Founder & CEO of Black Connections established June 2018June 9th, 2026 Voyage Houston InterviewToday we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Wilson.Hi Sandra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.My story is rooted in a desire to create positive change. As a single mother of four, I witnessed the challenges our community faces and knew I wanted to make a difference. I began using my pro-Black Instagram page to raise awareness and encourage unity within our community.In 2018, I was given an opportunity by Dale Dowdie, who recognized my passion and invited me to help manage content for Black Facts. Through that experience, I was encouraged to create my own platform focused on uplifting and empowering our community.That vision led to the creation of Black Connections, a space dedicated to supporting Black-owned businesses, organizations, events, and entrepreneurs. My goal was to provide a platform where we could connect, collaborate, and intentionally support one another’s success.Black Connections was built on the belief that when we invest in our own businesses, we strengthen our communities. Supporting Black-owned businesses helps keep dollars circulating within our community, creates opportunities for growth, and opens doors to employment and economic advancement. Today’s small businesses can become tomorrow’s major corporations when they receive consistent community support.When we come together and support one another, there is no limit to what we can accomplish. Strong businesses can help create jobs, reduce poverty, revitalize neighborhoods, and expand access to affordable housing. Black community, please stop sharing videos and photos of Black-owned businesses without tagging them or listing their name and address. That doesn't help the business—it only creates engagement for your page while making it harder for people to find and support them. If we truly want to see Black-owned businesses survive and thrive, we have to make it easy for our community to spend money with them. Stop gatekeeping. Tag the business, share the location, and encourage others to support them. Our businesses are fighting to keep their doors open, and they need customers—not hidden recognition. by @blackconnections

We've had members of our organization experience racism in the same area, specifically Grants Pass. After speaking with the attorney on the case, he had this to say...I am glad to hear that you want to get involved. My name is Eric Fournier, and I am the defense attorney who handled Mr. Simpson’s case at trial. To me, it seemed like a fairly straightforward case of self-defense. The aggressor Firefighter Brandon Olson (white) admitted that he attacked Mr. Simpson (Black), there were witnesses who heard him shouting racial slurs at him, and the aggressor even chased after Mr. Simpson when Mr. Simpson disengaged from the fight. The aggressor also had drugs in his system according to the toxicology report. The all-white jury disagreed. I filed a number of motions and preserved several issues for his appeal, and I do believe that he will ultimately be successful on appeal. But that could take years. I am going to see what I can do to expedite the process. The best goal would be for Oregon Governor Tina Kotek to exercise her clemency power and grant him a pardon.✊🏾Here is how you can help. You are the real MVPs, and I truly appreciate every single one of you.The past four years have been incredibly challenging as I've navigated chronic illnesses, but the overwhelming love and encouragement you showed me reminded me that people still believe in me and continue to support Black Connections. Your kindness gave me hope when I needed it most.Every message warmed my soul, brought joy to my heart, and reminded me why I started this journey. Happy 53rd Birthday to the Founder/CEO of Black Connections ✊🏾💪🏾🫶🏾🎊🎉🥳Sandra Wilson's journey is rooted in purpose, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her community. As a single mother of four, she witnessed the heartbreaking reality of Black lives being lost to police violence and knew she could not remain silent. Determined to make a difference, she began using her voice through a pro-Black Instagram page, advocating for justice, unity, and empowerment.In February 2018, her passion caught the attention of Mr. Dale Dowdie, CEO of Black Facts, who invited her to manage content for the organization's social media platforms. Recognizing her dedication to uplifting the Black community, he encouraged her to create a platform of her own.Inspired by that encouragement, Sandra founded Black Connections in June 2018—a platform created exclusively to promote Black-owned businesses, organizations, events, and entrepreneurs. Her vision was to provide a dedicated space where the Black community could intentionally support one another and strengthen economic opportunities by recycling the Black dollar.Sandra believes that when Black communities invest in Black-owned businesses, they create jobs, build generational wealth, and lay the foundation for thriving neighborhoods. Strong businesses can help reduce poverty, create employment opportunities, and empower communities to invest in affordable housing and long-term economic growth.Since August 2016, Sandra has remained boots on the ground, serving as an advocate, community organizer, and champion for Black economic empowerment.
