TASTE THE MUSIC x SAUCED: SOUL

y’all. My eyes run, STILL, from how much joy I felt in these moments. This was my very best birthday in all 24 years eye have been alive. My words of appreciation will resound forever and ever until I’m hoarse.

Thank you so much to Julio @sauced.nash and his team. I pitched this idea to Julio off some random shit. NOT THINKING AT ALL that my idea was good enough for a creative powerhouse like him to cosign it. I no longer underestimate myself. Julio saw the value in my idea and instantly jumped in to make sure I had all the tools to bring it to life. From the initial word vomit I sent him trying to explain what I wanted to do— all the way to the very day, he was reachable, supportive, and honest. I am so utterly grateful to him. Thank you Julio, Ellie, and Nicole!

Next, a huge thank you to MY TEAM! @ommahhdi on prep and cleaning was the greatest help ever, things couldn’t have gone smoother with anyone else being my #2 in the kitchen and in life. Thank you :) @he.films is such an amazing friend!! He helped me create the initial reel to promo the event: recording, directing, and just being a homie always— he the goat. @malsphotoz is the man behind the recap photos you’re looking at . NEED I FKN SAY MORE. 🤩 I hit Jamal up so last minute, “yo bro if I buy the film too can you work yo magic?” Magic was worked. Hire him NEOW. (But not on the dates I need him).

Finally, a special thank you goes out to all of you who showed up for me and yourselves. Taste the Music was an idea that dawned on me when I was on my porch missing my Auntie. The original lady who instilled in me a love for cooking and healing the soul with a good meal. You showing up for me was you showing up for her. She everybody tete now. It felt so wonderful to serve you all on such a special day. I had friends show up at 5 on the dot, and friends who stayed with me—laughing and loving— until 1am. Y’all pulled up with your crew, gifts, words of affirmation, and CASH IN HAND baby. Thank you to every single person who made this worthwhile. I love you all so much.

concept, dead fish. cvntcept. i always feel like a dead fish girl underwater.

basically I’m the fish, caught in a net, with decomposing flesh [the strings of my skirt and green color of my legs], and exposed bones [cowrie shells, white]. i have also been sunken for a while, so there’s a lot of sunken treasures attached to me. jewels, metals, shiny glittery things. and my hair…? it’s my fish gills! by @blackgirllore
