Hi! I'm Wahíye. Wanna join me on my adventures in fiction (etc.) through audiobooks?

About me: I just got into fiction about 5 years ago when I started reading it for pleasure rather than an assignment. I'm naturally a nonfiction reader and always have been. I was that kid who'd spend hours browsing a dictionary. Alchemical symbols and Morse Code in the back, etymologies of words and the language family tree, the little illustrations next to some definitions: I took a lot of pleasure in those things in dictionaries and other reference-y books, meandering from one thing to another as it happened to catch my interest. For the most part, I've been the same as an adult. I do read essays and extensive discussions on topics, but I still get a kick out of Smithsonian and DK visual encyclopedias like the book pictured (images taken from Amazon).

Not too long ago, I decided to get rid of 99% of my books. I know what you're thinking, but this was way before Marie Kondo came onto the scene in the US. A family emergency led me to move abruptly twice in a year, and lugging books around was too much with everything else going on. Plus, no one was reading the books. My mom was gone, my kids were almost grown, and I worked at a library. On top of that, I was so busy that if I sat down with a book, I'd be asleep in 15 minutes. That led me to try audiobooks. Before I knew it, I was reading more than I ever have in my life. Right now, I read about a book a day.

What led me to the idea of doing reviews, is that I'm clearly not the target audience for most of the books I read. That's absolutely fine; I don't expect to be included in everything particularly where art is concerned, nor do I feel that's appropriate or a healthy way to think. But there's a difference between understanding that certain people tend to like your work & not even considering that folks outside your target will read it. Those two dynamics make for interesting reading, and I hope you decide to tag along as I meander along and explore whatever happens to catch my interest! #books #audiobooks #bookreview #audiobookreviews #listening #library #blackgirlmagic #bookchat #bookstagram #librarian by @blacklibrarylady

Bobiverse book six comes out tomorrow, and i'm a little excited. I just finished book five. It took me a really long time because I guess I just wasn't in the mood to read it. I definitely enjoyed it, but I think that things are starting to get a little convoluted at this point. With a lot of fantasy type books, you end up in a place where the story gets oversaturated. Like there are too many characters and too much going on to keep everythingstraight in your head. As a reader, i don't wanna have to pull out an infographic to remember who is who and why they are important. I think that's where we are with the Bobiverse. I feel like I read on the author's blog that this is the last book? that may be completely untrue. But I would be okay with that, as long as there is a decent ending. I've talked about the Dresden files having reached its saturation point some time ago and honestly, i'm not super interested in reading the last book that came out because of that. So, i honestly would be thankful for this to be the last Bobiverse book. Taylor is a good writer, and to be honest I'd rather be looking forward to the next book in the Outland series. It's a little bit less popular than Bobiverse but also really good. by @blacklibrarylady

Happy Sunday! What do we think, friends? Is this a pumpkin? There are a few plants growing in a ditch at the edge of this field. by @blacklibrarylady

Was out with the littles today and saw a bunch of random melon plants growing near a ditch, a patch of native sneezeweed hosting pollinators (that's Imrān mouth breathing in the background), and apparently i recorded a video from inside my pocket lol.
