We didn’t set out to be “well-traveled.” We just kept saying yes to curiosity.

Over time, that curiosity shaped how we move through the world and what we pay attention to when we’re in it.

Randi’s from Pittsburgh, earned her MBA from Howard University, served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan, and has lived in four countries outside the U.S. She’s an expert solo-traveler and has very clear feelings about pace, comfort, and not doing the absolute most on vacation.

Alishia’s from Cleveland, a proud Spelman alum with a master’s in international education from NYU, and was introduced to travel early by her mom. Curiosity has always come naturally to her, along with a refusal to rush what deserves care. She’s also the founder of @pecandy.co , which explains why good taste is not optional (IYKYK.)

We’ve spent years traveling together, paying attention to what works, what doesn’t, and what makes an experience feel thoughtful instead of exhausting. Black On Arrival is us bringing all of that together. Our history, our taste, and our shared belief that experiences should feel as good as they look.

Together, we’ve learned that travel hits different when it’s designed with care.

Black On Arrival is us continuing to build from that place.

Listen. Traveling with your friends as an adult is one of life’s great joys — but we’re grown. And the reality is things can go left real fast if you’re not intentional about it. Here’s how to travel with your friends and actually come home closer than when you left.

One. Travel with people you know you travel well with. Or at least people you have a strong feeling you could. Not every friend is a travel friend. And that’s okay.

Two. Communicate preferences before you go. Are we doing nice dinners or street food? Early mornings or sleeping in? Have that conversation before you land, not after.

Three. Don’t feel obligated to do everything together. Someone takes a walk, someone stays at the hotel, someone goes exploring alone for an hour. What you discover on your own becomes something fun to bring back to the group.

Four. Keep the group small. Two to four people. Fewer opinions, fewer complications, fewer opportunities for things to go sideways.

Five. Decide how you’re handling money before you leave. Splitting everything, paying for yourselves, a shared pot for group meals — just decide. It will save you so much awkwardness.

Six. Set the vibe expectation early. Are we going hard every night or is this a chill trip? Make sure everybody’s on the same page before you get there.

Seven. Have at least one intentional group moment. One nice dinner, one activity you all do together on purpose. Something that anchors the whole trip as a shared memory.

Eight. Don’t keep score. Someone’s gonna be late. Someone’s gonna change their mind. Let it go. You’re on vacation.

The best trips with friends aren’t the ones where everything goes perfectly — they’re the ones where you figure it out together.

Where are you and your friends trying to go next? Drop it in the comments.

Uncle Tony said it best: open your mind, get up off the couch and move. As often as you can.

A popcorn company in Minnesota owns the trademark on ‘Chicago Mix.’ But ask anyone in Chicago what it is, and they’ll tell you exactly what it’s called. 🍿

Your “manager” tab is always open. Between the schedules, the vibes, and the “is everyone okay?”, Black women are the architects of everyone else’s peace.

But who builds ours?

At Black On Arrival, we believe you shouldn’t have to work for your own “exhale.” We’ve already done the thinking. We’ve already considered the details. All that’s left is for you to arrive. 🥂✨ by @blackonarrival

Solo travel is incredible. It can also be exhausting in a way nobody talks about.

The vigilance. The calculation. The mental load that doesn’t care how beautiful the view is.

We’re building Black On Arrival for the exhale.

I found the group on Instagram. Didn’t know anyone. Almost didn’t go.

Then Paola handed me a bracelet with my name on it and a card that said you’re not alone anymore — and I cried quietly on the van.

That moment is why Black On Arrival exists as it is today.

We’re building it on purpose. For you. 🤎
