Based in Bermuda, Black Pony Gallery was established in 2020 to build global awareness of and investment in the talents of emerging to established visual artists from the Caribbean Mid-Atlantic. Led by Lisa Howie, former executive director of Bermuda National Gallery, Black Pony Gallery is a roaming, virtual entity, showcasing an online catalogue of artworks while participating in international and regional art fairs and exhibitions. From 2021-23, Lisa developed the Atlantic World Art Fair on Artsy.com, to collectivize regional galleries and connect with global collectors. Then, from 2023-25, she co-produced Atlantic Arthouse presentations in the USA, elevating the regional focus further. In 2025, she began self-publishing art books, starting with Charles Zuill: Portals to Another Dimension. Black Pony Gallery presents artists residing in the Azores, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cuba, The Bahamas, and Turks & Caicos, and has satellite locations in the Cambridge Beaches Hotel and St. George’s Marina in Bermuda.Swipe to explore:👉 Featured artists: Jason A. ASCENSION - Indigo .The first time I stood in front of DeDe Brown’s masterpiece my body reacted in a way I can’t explain. There was an immediate feeling of peace and magic with a visceral remembering that felt generational, inherited. There was also a deep sorrow but more for the inconceivable horror that came before this powerful rebirth I observed in Dede’s work..It felt like I was witnessing a resurrection, a symbol of the women who never made it across the Atlantic alive. Women who entered the ocean in terror, resistance, illness, grief, exhaustion, or surrender. And yet, standing before this painting, I felt transformation. A triumphant emergence. As though even in the face of horror, she transcended into someone who could not be owned, traded or erased. A sort of divinity. It stirred something ancestral in me. Ascension. 🙏🏽 And I smiled as I wept because, again, we rise and make magic out of pain. .This is what I see in Dede’s work, I’m curious what you see. Tyrone Ferguson (b. 1954, Bahamas) is a metal sculptor with over four decades of experience. Trained as a professional metal fabricator, he mastered forging, forming, cutting, grinding, and welding, transforming technical skill into artistic vision rooted in Bahamian heritage and global influences.Ferguson’s work explores cycles of transformation through found and recycled materials. His sculptures move fluidly across philosophy, religion, mythology, Afrocentric history, and the environment. Scrap metal becomes rebirth, embodying permanence and impermanence, while his practice reflects both technical mastery and spiritual meditation on continuity.Ferguson’s work is widely recognized in public spaces and collections, including The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas and The Central Bank. Dede Brown (b. The Bahamas) is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across mixed media, combining photography, digital processes, painting, and copper. Her practice explores the body as a site of transformation, navigating themes of vulnerability, resilience, and spiritual embodiment.Through layered compositions and hand-embellished surfaces, Brown creates luminous figures that exist between physical and metaphysical realms. Drawing from personal narrative, meditation, and introspection, her work translates experiences of grief, love, and healing into richly textured visual forms. First person we met in Bermuda… and what a way to start 🇧🇲We arrived late Friday night, tired but excited, and by Saturday morning we were in the lobby meeting Lisa Howe—completely unaware of what was about to unfold. She took us through the incredible art collection at the Princess Hamilton… just wow. Works by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Daniel Arsham, KAWS, D*Face, Banksy… and even Kai and Sunny… just to name a few.We talked art, shared stories, and instantly connected—but ran out of time as the next activity called. No problem… we knew we’d pick it up again.Lisa came to the art class, then joined us for dinner at 1609 where her husband Sylvanus jumped into the conversation. Even in the noise, the energy was unreal—those kinds of conversations that just flow.Then it got even better… Lisa and Sylvanus invited me and the fam to their beautiful home, filled with the most incredible art, for an unforgettable dinner.Somewhere in all of that, I realised… we hadn’t just met people—we’d made real friends. The kind you stay connected with for life. 🙌Thank you Diarmaid and Makenzie 🙌 for connecting us.Also… day one in Bermuda and my legs were brighter than your trousers—honestly blinding ☀️😂 by @blackponygallery
