It was a real pleasure to welcome the group and explore the City of London through the often-overlooked histories of slavery, colonialism, finance and the wealth that helped shape the city we see today.

A huge thank you to Professor Scott Marr for once again bringing another fantastic group of students from ๐—•๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ, for a second year in a row, on the ๐—–๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป: ๐—ฆ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—น ๐—ง๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ.

Every cohort brings something different, and this one came full of thoughtful questions, genuine curiosity, and the enthusiasm to dig deeper into the history of the British Empire and the City of London's role within it.

Visiting from Boston, Massachusetts, the group arrived with deep curiosity and critical engagement, having already encountered my work through the

Together, we explored how wealth was built through slavery, empire, colonialism, finance, and global trade examining the legacies that continue to shape our world today. It's always encouraging to spend time with students who are willing to engage with difficult histories, challenge assumptions, and ask insightful questions.

Safe travels, and I hope to welcome another Boston University group again soon!

Firstly, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the

Before the tour began, I explained that this has been one of my most challenged tours. It has been criticised, cancelled, and even vilified simply because it examines a difficult and often overlooked aspect of history. Despite that, I have always believed that history should be explored honestly, respectfully, and through evidence. No one should be bullied into silence when discussing a crime against humanity.

I want to give a special thank you to the amazing Israelite brothers and sisters from ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ ๐—š๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€ and ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—›๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—œ๐˜€๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฒ๐—น. Your words of encouragement, affirmations, and the scriptures you shared strengthened my resolve to continue researching and presenting the historical record with integrity. Your support reminded me that we should never allow intimidation to prevent the truth from being examined.

The police presence didn't prevent the education.

It was also moving to meet people whose family roots span so much of the African diaspora and beyond. Thank you to my attendees with heritage connected to Antigua ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฌ, Barbados ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ง, Congo ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฉ, Jamaica ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒ, Kenya ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช, Montserrat ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ธ and St. Kitts & Nevis ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ณ. Seeing those connections reflected in one group was a powerful reminder that the history of the transatlantic slave trade is not abstract, it is deeply personal and continues to resonate across generations.

As Proverbs 31:8 reminds us:

Thank you all for standing with me, for engaging with the evidence, asking thoughtful questions, and showing that difficult history can be explored with respect, honesty, and a shared commitment to learning.

For the next tour, send me a DM for more information.

A huge thank you to Professors Jane Lydon and Zoeฬˆ Laidlaw from Australia, for making my City of London: Slave Trade Money Trail Tour a part of their trip to England.

It was a privilege to share this learning experience with two scholars whose work continues to deepen our understanding of the legacies of British slavery across Australia and New Zealand. Their research reminds us that the story of transatlantic slavery did not end at abolition, it shaped economies, institutions, land ownership, wealth, migration, and societies across the globe, with consequences that continue to be felt today.

The more we uncover, the more we see just how vast the slave trade was and how interconnected its networks became. The City of London was not simply a financial centre; it was linked to a global web of money, power, commerce, insurance, shipping, plantations, and colonial expansion. Tracing these connections helps us better understand the world we have inherited.

A special thank you also to their great friend David Lambert for joining us and contributing to such thoughtful discussions throughout the tour. These conversations are exactly why this work matters.

Thank you all for your curiosity, insights, and commitment to exploring these histories. Safe travels, and I hope our paths cross again soon.

๐Ÿšจ UPDATE ๐Ÿšจ

Over the last month, I have done everything possible to approach this matter reasonably, professionally, and with respect. I attended a meeting, listened carefully to concerns, remained open to compromise, and engaged in good faith throughout the process in the hope that a constructive outcome could be reached.

However, despite my willingness to engage, I have ultimately been met with resistance at every stage. ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป is now formally protecting Bevis Marks Synagogue and ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ฏ๐—ถ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ผ๐—บ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€, requesting that the synagogue be removed entirely from the route of the London: Jewish Money& TheSlaveTradeTour. I shouldn't be surprised as recently Rabbi Morris was awarded the Freedom of the City of London after 10 years at Bevis Marks Synagogue.

At the same time, no acknowledgement has been made of the professional, financial, or emotional impact this process has had on me after years of research, planning, and public educational work.

What disappoints me most is that I genuinely believed this process had the potential to create meaningful dialogue and bridge understanding between communities through honest historical engagement. Instead, I have been left feeling that my work, my voice, and my intentions as a Black historian and educator have not been afforded the same level of protection, understanding, or respect.

Still, I refuse to back down.

History must be approached in full, not selectively. Difficult conversations cannot be avoided simply because they create discomfort. The tour WILL happen, and I will continue standing for open historical inquiry, truth-telling, and the right to examine all aspects of the transatlantic slave trade and its financial networks. Please send me a DM for a payment link for the Tour and its details.

In the meantime, if you would like to express your disappointment as a community, you can contact them via the following:

Rabbi Shalom Morris: rabbimorris@bevismarks.org.uk

Bevis Marks Synagogue:

To everyone who has supported me throughout this process... thank you.

This situation has now escalated beyond a single platform. The matter has reached the ๐—–๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, and I am currently in direct communication with them. It is clear that this has developed into a wider issue, not simply because of the subject matter itself, but because I have chosen not to step back from delivering historically grounded, evidence-based education. My position remains that a full and honest understanding of history requires engagement with all aspects of the past, even when they are complex or uncomfortable.

Eventbrite has gone from not making the event searchable, but available to now cancelled the scheduled dates and issued refunds to all ticket holders, and my appeal to retain the tour on their platform has been rejected. I sincerely apologise to those who had booked and were looking forward to attending. It is unfortunate that the concerns of a small number of individuals, albeit with significant influence, have led to the removal of an educational event that has consistently been delivered responsibly and received positively over many years.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me. Whether through purchasing tickets, sharing the work, or sending messages of encouragement, THANK YOU! The level of support from across communities and across the world has been deeply appreciated.

That said, this is not the end. The work continues. I am engaging in further discussions to ensure the tour can proceed in any way, and I remain committed to seeing it happen. Thank you again for your continued support, and by any means necessary, the truth will be told.

Some tours stay with you long after the last stop, this was one of them.

The benefit of a small group is always how much time you can hold space for intense questioning. This group asking the kind of questions that donโ€™t just skim the surface, but dig deep into the uncomfortable truths of Londonโ€™s past. The conversation was honest, reflective, and at times heavy, as we unpacked the legacies of empire, wealth, and colonial trauma woven into the City.

What stood out most wasnโ€™t just what was learned, but how it was held. With care, curiosity, and a willingness to sit with the weight of history while still finding connection, understanding, and even moments of light.

These are the kinds of exchanges that remind me why this walking to is important for discourse and change.

Kicked off my first City of London: Slave Trade Money Trail tour of 2026 with an incredible group.

This group were deeply engaged, thoughtful, and inquisitive, it was a pleasure to host this amazing group with their heritage and lineage from England ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ, Scotland ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ, St Kitts ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ณ and USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. This is a reminder of how global stories are linked to London and the British Empire.

These moments in history donโ€™t sit in one placeโ€ฆ they move, they connect, and they shape the world we live in today.

This is what allyship looks like.

A huge thank you to Trupti Magecha for arranging a powerful and meaningful private City of London: Slave Trade Money Trail Tour with the team at Homa London. Iโ€™m truly grateful to Sophie Boss, Jane Fraser and Ben Gold for showing up with openness, curiosity, and a genuine willingness to engage in what are often challenging but necessary conversations.

It means a lot when people donโ€™t just attend, but actively listen, reflect, and contribute to the dialogue in a thoughtful way. Spaces like this remind me why this work matters.

Homa London are doing important work creating spaces for reflection, healing, and deeper understanding through therapy and conversation. That kind of work has real impact, both individually and collectively.

Engaging with this remarkable group also prompted a moment of critical self-reflection, particularly regarding the importance of wellbeing and sustainability in this work, as I prepare for the demands of the upcoming tour season and enter my sixth year of delivering this educational experience.

Eventbrite have rejected my appeal.

As someone committed to historical research and public education, I believe deeply in the importance of a 360ยฐ understanding of history, one that examines all aspects, all actors, and all systems that shaped the past.
History cannot be responsibly taught or understood if certain areas are avoided or made inaccessible. A full and honest engagement with the historical record requires nuance, evidence, and the willingness to explore complex and sometimes uncomfortable truths.

For that reason, this will be my final year using Eventbrite for my tours. I am already in discussions with another major platform that has reached out to support my work, and I will be transitioning over in due course.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this, your messages and encouragement from across the world have been invaluable.
