Tambourine has it’s ups and downs 🖐️

⬆️ Upward motion opens the sustain
⬇️ Downward motion clamps the decay.

A tambourine strike doesn't have to be a staccato dead-end. When you lift the instrument upward into the hit, inertia keeps the jingles suspended in mid-air. Instant sustain that actually matches wind and string phrases.

Need whisper-soft dynamic control without the jingles buzzing out of control? Drive the frame downward using your forearm. It stabilizes the jingle pins before they scatter.

I really wanted each section of the #gearsofwar score to sound distinct and unique within the score. In the chaotic city segments I thought a trashy, loose and kind of “far away” percussion sound would be interesting so I just used overhead mics (@earthworksaudio QTC40) and hyper processed them with @xlnaudio drum butter)

The real highlight was hybridizing my 24 inch @blackswamppercussion bass drumb with the DW kit and the 8 Black swamp orchestral toms AND the tambourine! Being able to do stick and pedal interplay with two really sounding bass drumbs led to some super interesting possibilities

More perc stuff to come!
