Every year at the Little League World Series there’s one number you’ll never see on a jersey. Number 11.

Back in 1991 a 12 year old named Michael Cammarata wore it playing right field. He even wrote “Cammarata 9/11” in the scorebook for his name, position and number. Just a kid keeping score. No way he could’ve known what that date would mean one day.

Ten years later Michael ran into the World Trade Center as a New York City firefighter. He saved lives that day. He never came home.

Now his number sits painted on the wall at Lamade Stadium. Retired forever. The only number in Little League history that’ll never be worn again.
