Philadelphia was the birthplace of American democracy. Today, a new revolution is unfolding ..Not in Independence Hall, but on our street corners, in our checkout lines, and in our pockets.

From AI-powered transit cameras, to the algorithms in our feeds, and the data centers rising in our backyards, the “tech of the future” has arrived. But while technology is moving at lightspeed, our voices are being left behind. It’s time to stop and ask the real questions: Who is this tech actually serving? And how do we ensure we all benefit equitably?

Black Tech Philly, in partnership with The Free Library of Philadelphia, is proud to announce The Black Tech Philly Tech Town Hall Series.

This is a forum by the community, for the community. We are bringing together tech experts, civic leaders, and Philadelphians to bridge the digital divide. Our goal is simple: to bring together every Philadelphian, regardless of age, color, background, and zip code, and listen to your concerns and your ideas for our city, and take your insights to develop an action plan for Philadelphia’s tech future.

Let your voice be heard and join us in shaping our city’s future at this critical time by registering for one of our sessions below!

There's no single right answer. That's what makes system design real. ⚖️ Save this.

You're building a ride-share app. A driver's GPS updates every 2 seconds. Riders need to see that driver moving — live.

Do you make sure every rider sees the exact same location? Or do you make sure the map never freezes, even if it's slightly off?

Consistency vs. Availability. One trade-off. Infinite implications.

At Black Tech Philly, we're breaking down how engineers think through decisions like this: because real system design isn't a textbook answer, it's a conversation.

Drop a comment 👇🏾, which would you pick for Uber, and why?

🗓️ Workshop tomorrow. Clips still on our page from this week ...tap in

Every time a webpage loads in under a second, caching had something to do with it. ⚡
Save. Store. Serve fast.
That video you just watched? The image that loaded instantly? That content wasn't fetched from scratch, it was cached closer to you.
At Black Tech Philly, we're breaking down how CDNs and caching keep the apps you love fast, reliable, and scalable ..no matter how many people are using them at the same time.
Because speed isn't magic. It's architecture.
Drop a comment 👇🏾, name an app you use daily and guess where you think the caching is happening. Netflix? Instagram? YouTube? Let's talk about it.
🗓️ We're going even deeper this Saturday, April 4th, at our workshop. More clips dropping all week — stay tuned.
