I’m grateful for the continued opportunity to create, build, and tell stories through Black Vine Network. Every project is another chance to grow, challenge myself creatively, and contribute something meaningful to the landscape of independent cinema.

DMViFF turns 18. 🎬

Eighteen years ago, the DMV International Film Festival started with a simple belief: filmmakers deserve a place where their work can be seen, their voices can be heard, and their stories can find an audience.

A lot can happen in 18 years. The industry changes. Technology changes. Filmmakers change. Life changes. And sometimes, the most responsible thing you can do with something you love is give it room to evolve.

We took that room.

Now DMViFF is returning with a renewed vision, a new partnership with Black Vine Network, and the same commitment that started all of this in 2009: make space for filmmakers.

On April 17–18, 2027, we’re coming back to the theater for our 18th anniversary year, curating a full weekend of films from the DMV, across the country, and around the world.

And we’re opening the door wide.

Submissions are completely FREE. No submission fee. No paywall between your film and our programming team. We want to see the work.

Features. Shorts. Documentaries. Narratives. Experimental work. Stories from established filmmakers and stories from somebody brave enough to call themselves a filmmaker for the first time.

If you made something you believe deserves a screen, send it.

To every filmmaker who screened with us, volunteered, attended, supported us, told somebody about us, or simply believed this festival belonged here: thank you.

Eighteen years later, we’re still making room for stories from around the world.

Starting right here. 🎥 #DMViFF taken in Marlow Cinema 6 by @blackvinenet

Some things are just black and white.

The first official images from THE BUFFER.

A project I wrote and directed (brought to life by @blackvinenet), with the support of the @pgahc and the @mdartscouncil. I’m incredibly grateful to both for granting this project and believing in the work.

And a very special shoutout to my producer @arad_cinemaguy.

(I’ll get into the magic this man somehow pulled off in two days once we have the final cut. 😂)
Specifically thank you to ALL the cast and crew that made this project possible and production effortlessly smooth.

Something ambitious.

Something homegrown.

Something a little dangerous.

Maybe even something epic.

I am incredibly proud of what we are building.

A very special thank you to @mdartscouncil and @pgahc for investing in artists, original storytelling and the possibility of work like this being created here at home. Your support matters. It creates the space for ideas to move beyond the page and become something real.

And to our cast, crew, collaborators, families and everyone who has helped THE BUFFER get this far: this belongs to you too.

THE BUFFER.

These are only the first few frames.

Wait until you see what we actually made.

At Black Vine Network, diversity isn’t just a buzzword — it’s the foundation.

Our departments are led by powerhouse Black women:
✦ Post-Production — Black woman led.
✦ Writer’s Room — Black woman led.
✦ Production — Black woman led.

This leadership means our stories come from voices that have too often been left out of the mainstream. It also means everything we create is rooted in authenticity, innovation, and vision.

But BVN isn’t exclusive — it’s inclusive. Our team reflects the real world: Black, white, and everything in between, all working side by side to build something bigger than ourselves.

The result? A network that doesn’t just “add” diversity — it embodies it. A network where culture, collaboration, and creativity drive everything.

📺 This is what the future of entertainment looks like.

Meet Tony Cole — BVN’s Director of Photography.
The eye behind the lens. The one making sure every project, from Ratchet to Green Ivory, looks as powerful as it feels.

Tony doesn’t just capture images. He builds worlds. His artistry turns scripts into cinematic experiences, giving BVN its signature look.

When you see a BVN project and think, “Wow, that looks incredible” — that’s Tony.

The system says it’s about the child.
But why are so many fathers left broken?

The Family isn’t just a series — it’s a conversation starter about reform, justice, and the right for fathers to be present.

Sitcoms are safe. This isn’t.

Green Ivory is bold, smart, and messy in all the right ways. In their interviews, the cast breaks down what makes this show more than just comedy — it’s a reflection of our lives, our families, and our culture.
