Is this a midlife crisis? If so, I love it here 😍

Did you know there is nothing inherently negative in the definition of the word “crisis”? A crisis isn’t bad; it isn’t a breakdown. It literally means “a decisive change”… a turning point

I feel like when a midlife crisis is mentioned, it’s usually about men doing something drastic or impulsive as they confront their age and mortality.

But for women, I believe it feels different.

Most of us have already spent years raising husbands, coworkers, and kids (I use raising for all three on purpose 👀).

When we start thinking about our time and our mortality, we’re not trying to feel younger. We’re trying to feel more like ourselves.

We don’t want the car, most of us definitely do not want a much younger partner, and we aren’t looking to be invincible.

We want to be better and do better, not just have the things that signal we’re better.

So maybe…. a crisis is exactly what we need? ✨ by @blairangela

Weekends are usually reserved for Kofi’s sports, so it was fun to get a taste of the “dance mom” life with my Noble girl.

I just want to say, (so far) being a multi-sport mom is easy and straightforward compared to this dance mom life. Dance is not for the weak… a lot of obscure location searches with a side of many hurry up and waits for ~5 min of “showtime” lol

My friends hosted a “Nowhere to Wear This” party (aka an excuse to finally wear the thing in your closet that’s been waiting on a moment that never quite showed up).

I immediately knew that I would wear this set that has been hanging in my closet for three or four years. When it first arrived, I remember opening the box and thinking “Absolutely NOT”. Then I tried it on and instantly changed my mind. I loved the way it fit (even though now it’s a bit too big) and the SJP vibes.

However, whenever an event came up, I always skipped over it. I’d tell myself the moment didn’t fit, that it would make more sense somewhere else, some other time.

After the party, my college friends and I started looking at our college yearbooks. I realized I was absolutely nowhere to be found.

How intentionally unnoticeable I’d made myself.

How much energy I spent avoiding potential judgment by making myself invisible

Looking at it now, it’s clear how much of my life barely left a record because of that choice. I can see now that purposely avoiding visibility didn’t protect me; rather it erased parts of my life.

It’s tough to reflect and realize how reasonable that choice felt at the time.

Decisions made to avoid discomfort or stay palatable to people who don’t serve you can shape more of your life than you intend. by @blairangela

Last week Kofi asked me if we have any wrapped presents. At that moment I realized I haven’t wrapped anything to go under the tree (This Christmas they received books, an Amazon ballet duffle bag for Noble, and a fish tank for Kofi 🐟🫠 —- dassit 🙅🏽‍♀️).

Anyway. I told him that I didn’t have any presents wrapped yet, but I would get some under the tree soon.

Then he said that he wasn’t asking about their presents, he was asking for Toys for Tots (he thought they had to be wrapped).

This isn’t a post saying that my kids aren’t selfish, or that they never ask for things - they are sometimes and they do often.

However, I’m so happy that they understand Christmas isn’t about them. It’s not “their moment.” It’s not their birthday.

They know they don’t deserve more gifts than Jesus on HIS birthday, and gifting Jesus means to give to others.

Norman grew up saying he would be the president, and being the man we all know… he figured out how to do it.

Something Representative Mack said yesterday that rang so true is that you can figure out how to get something done if you put your mind to it, and you have always been like that.

When you’re committed, you’ll always find a way… you can cut on a dime, baby. Never forget that ❤️
