Who saved who? No question, really

I said farewell to my constant companion of the last thirteen years. What an incredible gift of kindness, love and loyalty

From the mountains of North Carolina, to a third floor walk-up in Brooklyn, before farm life in the Hudson Valley and criss crossing the country — we hiked, we ran, swam, walked, played, and just chilled in some truly stunning places — all together

Pisgah made me a better person, without a doubt

To all our wild and wonderful adventures. To all the friends she made and people she loved, life was really sweet with this amazing soul

I’m going to miss her to the moon and back. Already do. So very grateful to have shared a beautiful life with my best friend

Pisgah was a G. Pisgah is a Legend.

Harvest 2023

We captured time in a bottle and what a time it was!

Due to the rains, picking came later this year — running late August through the end of November.

‘Was very fortunate to have worked with some of the most dedicated and passionate folks I know. @shakaholik + @stapler25

@haynesvineyard is a magical spot. An ancient caldera — collapsed. Some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines planted in Napa, legendary Chardonnay alongside Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc and Merlot blanket the land.

Senses were heightened with texture at the forefront. Learned the beginnings of how to make incredible wine.

Synapses fired, awesome friends and connections made.

All while living and exploring in an exceptionally beautiful place.

Fortunate, indeed!

Can’t wait to see how this vintage turns out over the years and decades to come.

Utah, 2023

Awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping, magnificent and incredible, unbelievable beauty. Almost speechless, but obviously the wonder can’t be contained. This adventure has been on my list for a while — always saving for another time. Thankfully, the time is now.

Drove from New York, heading west through Pennsylvania and the Allegheny mountains before an overnight in Youngstown, Ohio — indeed, rusted in the Rust Belt.

The next few days were along I-80 with corn fields and 18-wheelers. A brief camp at Beverly Shores on the southern side of Lake Michigan in a sliver of Indiana. On through Illinois and Iowa before landing in Omaha the next day.

Omaha, Nebraska — you were a surprise and a delight. (Soundtrack: Counting Crow’s “August and Everything”)

Carbondale, Colorado was the next stop. Lovely meeting old buds and extending the visit into an Aspen day-trip hiking Maroon Bells and hanging at the Highlands for a much needed beer and burger aprés hike.

Then, to Utah. It’s been a while since being taken aback by a landscape. In the Hudson Valley we’re surrounded by beauty every day. And, I do like to believe there’s beauty to be found almost always. But this… Wow. This, was — is, such an epic place.

Through Moab at 100 degrees and its other-worldly landscape to 60 degrees a couple hours later passing over the summit at Dixie National Forest. You pass through these intensely juxtaposed landscapes of desert and alpine horizons. Desolate beauty in one with open range cattle in the other.

Escalante had me for a couple days. The river and trail accessibility for my doggo was the kicker. No cell service for 48 hours was also welcome.

Zion for the finale, and without a doubt — one of the most spectacular sights I’ve ever been fortunate enough to see. Truly, an earthly wonder. I can understand the biblical reference of refuge.

Gratitude.

With friends like these! @jamieseet + @camilleriviereselection 🇫🇷
Had an incredible time exploring Paris with a trip to the Côte d’Azur in between. In Antibes, time slowed. In the City of Lights, time was electric. Already plotting a return knowing I just scratched the surface. Much more to discover and French to learn!

It’s been a rad summer here in the Hudson Valley.

Lots of hiking, biking, swimming, running and sunning — connecting with old friends and meeting new ones… Very grateful to call this most spectacular place home.

Soaking up these last weeks of high sun and hope it’s shining on you too!

Living California Dreams this Winter wouldn’t have been possible without a home base. Fortunately, the best of the best gave me a place to land and call home, and truly, it couldn’t have been better.

Here’s to more travels around the world and at home. To quickie bots and lazy brunches. To sharing in growth and development. And to a continued journey of evolving and helping each other to be our best selves.

Much love my dear friends. 🙏 taken in Los Angeles, California by @blake.arrowood

Pruning vines turned out to be the most transformative California experience. I
had the ultimate privilege to be alongside some incredible humans in Cambria on the central coast and Temecula, in the southwest.

At @rajatparr place in Cambria, @phelanfarmcambria, we worked with several different varieties, each requiring a different approach. Lessons in pruning were led by @scholiumwines with kindness and acumen. Leaving the vineyards everyday, there was a true sense of breath and accomplishment.

Phelan Farms is a place where peace resides. A regenerative approach to viticulture that is paving the way forward for how we can grow in the most conscious way possible.

In Temecula, at an abandoned vineyard with vines over a 100 years old we pruned with visions past, visions present and visions of the future. Lone Wolf, discovered by @christinarasmussen_ was pure magic. In its third year of recovery there is great renewal and promise in the vines.

Feeling gratitude and very fortunate to be part of a community of wonderful people making it all happen.

Looking forward to seeing the evolution of these vines and all the beautiful people met along the way taken in California by @blake.arrowood

Back in Oakland — which seems like months ago, but only a few weeks — had the chance to reunion with some ole Marshall Island buddies 🏝

More than a decade has passed since we made that trip — and what a life-changing trip it was. In the years since we’ve all moved on and lived lifetimes over.

It is truly wonderful to spend some time and catch up with friends from those lifetimes before. Time slows, then time speeds. It’s warped, no doubt. But sometimes the past catches up with the future and you land in the present — that was this visit with friends in Oakland.

Remembering: meeting of the doggos, homemade enchiladas, late night talks from healthcare to education and was it mountains or hills? River walks, vegan bbq, surf n turf, a rousing game of Settlers and damn good burritos. Plus, the most epic hike in the Redwoods ever (my calves are still recovering) — and this adventure was the only photos I got from the whole trip!
