I’ve tried a number of mics on drums, and hope to explore more combinations in the future.

Currently this is what I’m using.
Kick drum mics:
DW moon mic (low-lows on the reso head)
Shure beta 91a (beater head attack inside kick)
Audix D6, or AKG d112 (kick port hole)

Snare drum:
Lauten Audio Snare Mic (snare top)
Shure SM57 (snare bottom)

High hats:
Lauten Audio LA120

Toms:
Senheizer MD 421 kompakt

Overheads:
Soyuz 013 matched pair

While I had no problems with the Shure drum pack, (sm57s, and beta 52a), I’m very much enjoying the depth and tonal variance of this current setup. by @blakelystudio

Lots to learn about drums and recording.

It’s starting to feel decent though.

This rough recording and edit has no terribly egregious sounds.

I’m using sm57’s on snare top/bottom, the high hats, and for each of the 3 toms. There’s a Shure beta 52a on the outside kick and an akg d112 on the inside. Lauten audio 120’s are capturing the overhead.

All mics except the overhead are running through focusright scarlet preamp/compression, while overheads are going through Apollo x8p.

Normally I’d have everything go through the Apollo’s, but I’m testing out the focus right and really enjoying it.

There’s some basic edits applied in the box too.

As always, suggestions welcome.
