The other day a client asked me, “Why do you do this? Why real estate?”

I shared that I love the conversations, enjoy the negotiations, and finding discrepancies in the contracts. True as each of those might be, I immediately followed with what’s behind all the ‘doing’ of the work...

“People. Ultimately, this career is all about people. Clients come first, always.”

You can sell 100+ homes a year, and be nothing more than a transactional agent who keeps it strictly about their own business and interests, disregarding the relationships that sustain it. This industry, done right, is a relational one. People relate to people (though I also relate to a fabulous bottle of red wine and a solid caesar salad, obviously).

No matter the price point, it is never lost on me that my work is all about advising someone on an investment that plays into their entire life story — a process that some people only go through a handful of times in a generation. Referral business, based on a trusted relationship, is the best kind of business.

As is true in real estate and in life, take care of your people and always value the relationship. by @blakesbratcher
