I made these mistakes so you don’t have to.

When I first got Blanco, I had the best intentions, but had almost no real knowledge about proper rabbit care even though I did some research. I took her to a regular vet who claimed they saw bunnies. She wasn’t given proper health exams and a lot of health issues were misdiagnosed.

I had no idea about her ear infections until it had advanced. She was doing binkies the day before she presented a head tilt. When we later found a good exotic vet, she finally got the medical attention she needs and I’ve spent thousands on her vet care over the past 6 years. Besides that, she has torn apart almost every carpet/rug I’ve had. I’ve painted my walls and renovated my floors a couple times.

The first week she was home with me I had a very small space for her to stay in overnight or when I wasn’t home, but she quickly taught me that she doesn’t like being confined. She was constantly chewing the bars and trying to get out. When I free roamed her in my room, she thrived more than I can explain and our unbreakable love and bond started then and there. Bunnies do not belong in small spaces/cages. Please do not bring one home if that’s all you can offer.

When I got Blanco, I didn’t have any concrete plans to get another bunny. I had always seen cute bunny pairs, but didn’t truly understand the extent of how important it was for them to have a bunny friend. I thought I was enough for her. She was a very happy bunny and very affectionate with me. But a part of me felt extremely guilty when I wasn’t home and she was all alone. I saw how she would dig at the door or cause destruction from loneliness when I wasn’t around. As soon as I moved, my absolute priority was to adopt a friend for her and that’s exactly what I did. Bollo gave Blanco things I never could. The way they are together is unexplainable and something that can’t be fully understood unless you also have bonded bunnies. It was the best decision I ever made both for her and Bollo’s happiness and health.

They don’t understand our words, our intentions, or the promises we make. They only know how we make them feel. Trust like this isn’t given, it has to be earned. And when an animal who was born to be cautious chooses to feel safe in your presence, to close their eyes beside you, to seek your affection and love you in return… that is one of the most beautiful privileges in this world.

To be someone’s safe place, especially when that someone is so small and vulnerable, is a love unlike any other. 🥹

🤍 10 years of Blanco 🤍

Somehow an entire decade has passed since this little angel girl came into my life. Ten years of loving her, caring for her, worrying about her, laughing because of her and building so much of my life around her.

In honor of her 10th birthday, I wanted to share just a few of the things that have made her so remarkable over the past decade.

Watching her slow down and physically change over the past few years has made this birthday even more emotional. There have been times I truly didn’t know if she would make it to 10, and yet here she is. 🥹

Reaching her 10th birthday feels incredibly special. I know time with them is never promised, so getting to celebrate a whole decade with her is something I’ll never take for granted.

Happy 10th birthday to my angel on Earth. If love could make you live forever, you would. 🎀

A photo dump of three very spoiled bunnies living out their dandelion dreams 🥹✨🌼💛☀️

Note: This is my fully enclosed, untreated backyard and I am very familiar with the environment. My rabbits are always closely supervised and in almost a decade we have never encountered issues with parasites or predators. For us, the benefits of fresh grass, enrichment and vitamin D outweigh the low risks in this specific setting. Every environment is different, so I do not recommend taking rabbits outdoors unless you are confident the area is safe and can supervise them closely. 🤍
