Lifting Chains

Bilal: A New Breed of Hero
True story of Bilal Ibn Rabah (580-640 AD)
Amazon Prime

Hamama: What do you want to be when you grow up, Bilal? A farmer? Or maybe a merchant that makes a lot of money?

Bilal: I want to be a great warrior!

Hamama: (Laughs) And that’s what you will be. A great warrior with a beautiful voice.

Bilal: And I want to ride on a big horse! And I will fight enemies and protect you and Ghufaira!

Hamama: That’s very honorable, Bilal, but remember, a sword and a horse cannot make you a great man.

Bilal: They can’t?

Hamama: No, being a great man means living without chains.

Bilal: Huh. Chains⛓ ?

Hamama: No... The ones you can’t see. The ones... in here [places hand over heart]

Bilal: Inside me?

Hamama: Mh-hm. Being a warrior won’t make you a great man if you are chained to anger and vengeance. Superstition and fear are chains too. And there are others. To be a great man you have to break free of them all.

Bilal: But how do I do that? I can’t see inside me.

Hamama: I can. And I see the heart of a great man, Bilal. You’ll find the way. Guidance will come. You’ll see. No chains will hold you. No chains. by @blessedevolution

The 2000teens had me in my feelings. Big Cuz blessed me with this gem today. I remember writing it. Don’t remember recording myself or sharing it with anyone. Glad I did. Good lookin!

Sometimes we don’t have the capacity to express what someone truly means to us and the existential need for that expression creates a frustration that manifests itself in all the wrong ways.

High as a kite, but them rhymes hitting right (Like the young folks would say)

Corinthians 13:13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” by @blessedevolution
