#review Deeper Roots out of Berlin is back with a serious 12" vinyl release featuring the Crown Prince of Reggae, Dennis Brown, and producer Niney The Observer. On the A-side, you get the 1975 repatriation anthem 'Africa'. The Soul Syndicate provides a heavy foundation, and this extended mix lets the dub section breathe proper. Flip the wax for 'Here I Come Again', a more reflective tune focused on inner peace. Santa Davis drives the riddim on drums, while Dennis’ vocals float through heavy echo. This reissue gives two foundational 1970s tracks the respect and space they deserve. #Review Deeper Roots just dug into the archives to reissue 'African Train', a heavy 1975 single by Errol 'Flabba' Holt. The legendary Niney The Observer originally produced this one. You're probably used to Flabba laying down basslines, but here he steps up to the mic. The production is sparse and heavy with a nice piano riff running through it. The A-side was originally credited to the alias Observing African. And on the flip side, you get 'African Roots', a raw dub version credited to Holt & The Bolts. People think The Bolts were actually the Soul Syndicate band. It's a solid piece of mid-seventies roots history.
