Who doesn’t want to draw some beautiful flowers sometimes?

Blight is the namesake and OC of the little story I’m working through (for fun). She’s evolved heavily in the last 5 years but has always, in whatever form, been the center of the story.

I’ve always been fascinated with cults and their activities. I grew up adjacent to a religion that is now being referred to as a cult, and one thing that always struck me is how difficult it is for members to leave. All the carefully crafted social manipulation and work that’s done to make it as difficult as possible. On the other hand, our societies don’t offer much in the way of support for people trying to leave difficult situations like this, getting them set up with skills or finances that they need to thrive away from their community. I wanted to explore this with Blight.

With a touch of fantasy and dystopia, of course.

A quick fanart this weekend for Changeling by @magic.landss , one of my favourite online comics and creators. This is such a wonderful story and if you haven’t followed it yet, you’re missing out! Every chapter follows Ru as she adventures across new lands to cure herself of a horrible, life-ending curse... but it’s done with great humour and surprise. The care @magic.landss takes in crafting each panel is delightful, especially the expressions, which have SO much fun and creativity put into them.

Aside from being a great artist, @magic.landss is also a talented video editor and creates amazing Youtube content that echoes all the same humour and thoughtful effort she places in her comics. Highly recommend checking out that content as well.

And finally, she’s just a really great person. Always engaging and supportive, the kind of artist who makes this a great community to participate in. I really wanted to do a little tribute to her for all those reasons. 🫶

If you aren’t reading Rain Girl then you’re missing out on a wonderful story full of mystery and emotion. Beautifully drawn by @ashtreehouse.comics , the art style is so unique and cosy! And she updates much more frequently than me! 😂

I have a long list of fanart that I want to complete, and so this is the first dent in the list. It was extremely fun to draw the ordinate clothing and beautiful designs. A bit of a departure from where I usually spend my time and I was overdue for a little bit of colour! by @bli.ght

Chapter 20, Dekar, is now live! My poor Blight needs a little breather, so we’re going to give her one and pivot slightly to explore how we got here.

This was a long one to get done! Seven written pages instead of six, with an extra five pages illustrated. At times, it felt like I was never going to finish this one. There were a lot of exterior and interior moments that really ate up my time, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I’ve also been fine-tuning my rough pen, the one I use for scratchy details, and I really like where it’s at right now. I’m scaling back some of the noise and screen tones, too, and just using the ones I really like.

I’m not sure if anybody even notices that kind of thing, so is it worth putting in the extra work?

Not this time! 😂

All-in-all, I’m glad to have it behind me. It feels good to look back and see all those little bits of progress, but let’s move forward. :)

Another one down, this chapter put me more outside of my comfort zone and I hadn't been looking forward to it. I've never done any action panels, there was a lot of experimentation here. I’m happy with some, others need work, hahah… But I got through it!! Yet another thing to keep working on. I’d like to focus more on fx and decorative text, I'm trying to think about them as part of my sketching process but they're still tricky to execute. Maybe I’m just lacking patience. 😅

Otherwise, doing okay! Work is particularly busy, this project has been great to distract myself with. I'm taking a few days off to celebrate my partner's birthday and hiding away in the woods. We’ll do a little hiking, a little napping, I'll do a little writing.... the next chapter is 7 written pages long (that’s too long!) so I might need to make some tough decisions. 😭 Wish me luck! ♥️ by @bli.ght
