Bricolage (noun): construction or creation from a diverse range of available things. In this practice I examine history by reclaiming and upcycling used anthropological textbooks, vintage physician’s desk references, ancestral African picked cotton, shredded worldwide currencies, victorian furniture, as well as anything that fits the specificity of how my artwork informs the narrative.

Where Art Became Conversation // The inaugural LIFTD at BLIFTD ART STVDIOS (@bliftdbmore) brought together story, sound and taste across 15,000 square feet, celebrating the work of Baltimore artist and BLIFTD Resident Artist, E.L. Briscoe (@briscoe_art).

@djtanz and @sg_bmore shaped the evening’s atmosphere through vibrant soundscapes, while Dr. LaMarr Darnell Shields brought Briscoe’s work to life through storytelling and spoken word. Pendry Baltimore joined the experience with passed bites and an art-inspired cocktail, adding another layer to a night designed to be experienced from every angle.

A memorable first chapter for LIFTD and a beautiful celebration of Baltimore’s creative community. Stay tuned for future event dates. by @bliftdbmore

that drive to bmore will always be worth it because of events like this. I think I just found my new favorite thing happening in Baltimore. 🎨

BLIFTD @bliftdbmore is a new unique series at BLIFTD ART STVDIOS where visual art, live storytelling, and sound share the same room and Pendry Baltimore @pendrybaltimore brings the taste to match.

The inaugural night centered on Baltimore-based artist E.L. Briscoe, whose work explores the dualities of African American life through memory, history, and pop culture. Dr. LaMarr Darnell Shields responded with live storytelling and spoken word, and DJ Tanz and The Sound Garden set the tone for the room.

What happens when a painting becomes more than something you see? Something you hear, taste, and feel…

For the debut of LIFTD, we’re building an entire evening around the visual world of BLIFTD Resident Artist E.L. Briscoe.

Briscoe’s art draws on childhood memory, popular culture, comic books, and the imagery we absorb through entertainment—reconsidering those familiar references through the lens of adulthood and asking what they taught us about ourselves, one another, and the world around us.

On September 17, we’re taking that exploration beyond the canvas.

See it. Hear it. Taste it. Feel it.

Throughout the night, Briscoe’s artwork becomes the point of departure for sound, storytelling, food, atmosphere, and unexpected visual moments—each translating elements of his art into a different sensory experience.

Not an exhibition you simply walk through.

An evening you step inside.

If you know Baltimore, you know DJ Tanz. For decades, he’s been part of the soundtrack of this city—and on September 17, he brings that energy to LIFTD.

A veteran of Baltimore’s music scene with a career that has taken him from 92Q and Magic 95.9 to Sirius FM, the NAACP Convention, BET Honors, CIAA and dance floors across the country, @djtanz knows how to set the tone.

For our inaugural night, Tanz joins the BLIFTD team, Pendry Baltimore, The Sound Garden Record Shop and Short Kuts to help build the soundtrack around the art of BLIFTD Resident Artist E.L. Briscoe—bringing another layer of sound, movement and Baltimore into the experience.

Art you see.
Stories you hear.
Food you taste.
Music that carries the night.

🎤 Storytelling takes the stage at LIFTD. We’re honored to welcome The Short Kuts Show to our inaugural LIFTD event on September 17 — over a decade of live storytelling that turns real, often unheard stories into something unforgettable.

Leading the night: **Dr. LaMarr Darnell Shields** — author, poet, and founder/executive producer of The Short Kuts Show. His work is about truth, healing, and human connection, and giving people the space to tell the stories only they can tell.

Joining him, three Short Kuts alumni storytellers taking the mic:

🎙️ **Tuere Ganges** — Head Story Coach for The Short Kuts Show, educator, and storyteller who’s coached artists like Raheem Devaughn, Dana Dane, and Roxanne Shante.

🎙️ **Michelle Petties** — Food Story Coach, writer, and TEDx speaker whose storytelling explores culture, healing, and connection.

🎙️ **Claire Dorsey** — actress and storyteller with almost 20 years on NYC stages, Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway.

Come hear stories that stay with you. 🎟️ Link in bio for tickets.

Somehow, Pendry Baltimore trusted these two characters with a partnership. They may not fully know what they’ve gotten themselves into.

Jeffrey Kent of BLIFTD + Bryan Burkert from The Sound Garden Record Shop might be the two lovable troublemakers in front of the camera, but behind them is the BLIFTD team — alongside DJ Tanz, Short Kuts, and Pendry Baltimore — bringing together some of our favorite people across Baltimore’s art, music, hospitality, and storytelling communities for the first-ever LIFTD.

Join us Thursday, September 17, 7–10 PM at BLIFTD for the debut of LIFTD, featuring the art of BLIFTD Resident Artist E.L. Briscoe.

The BLIFTD team has plans. These two have ideas. Pendry trusted us anyway.

You should probably come see what happens.
