Here are the actual PROMPTS I tell my clients, druing a brand session: Shot 1: set your phone on a tripod, 3m away from the doorframe. Set the time up for 10 sec. Have live photo off, this way your camera will take a burst of 10 photos. Use that for each shot. The Doorframe Portrait - Stand in the doorframe with light coming at you (preferably not direct sunlight). Play around leaning on one side of the doorframe, or standing in the middle. Arms relaxed, or keep them in your pockets (only thumbs). Leggs wide appart. Play arround with looking straight at the camera or looking to the side. Shot 2: set your phone on a tripod,10-15m away. at your eye hight. Set the time up for 10 sec. Walk towards the camera. As you walk imagine there is a line drawn from between your feet to where the camera is, you want to pretend to walk on it. Kinda like the models are on a runway. Switch between looking at the camera, and to the side. Shot 3: set your phone on a tripod, keep it low, at eyelevel once your sitting on the floor. You want to sit having your phone facing you on your left or right side (that doesnt matter, what matters is if you have a prefered side, then use that as a guide). Bend your legs at the knees, but keep one leg lower than the other. Hug your knees loosely. Change possition by resting the arm closest to the camera, on the floor. Switch between looking at the camera and looking in front of yourself. Shot 4: phone on tripod 2-3m away, at eye height. It will again be to your side. The railing lean - find a railing, it can be at the end of he stairs, or a balcony. Lean into it, keep your weight on the leg farther from the camera, bend the closer leg slightly at your knee, and shift it slightly forward, to create a little space betweenn your legs (when lookd from the phones point). Rest your arm (the closer one to the camera) on the railing if possible, if not possible, you can place your thumb in your pocket, or just relax your hand and gently touch your upper leg. Again look into the camera, and then change to look infront of you. Ok there are actually only 4 shots but with these prompt you can capture so many shots. Being lonely in your business is not the whole problem. What happens when its just you, a lot of the projects and plans end up just in your head, you tend to overthink them, and sometimes overly complicate. This is why I love having a thinking buddy. So for example today I was telling @aureliadottax about my idea of changing the content day i have been hosting in the spring to something more collaborative. She immediately came with the idea of a space, which is the one in the video, how great is that. I love the synergy and ideas that come to life when you put two brains together instead of just one. I'm about to say something that probably costs me bookings. But first: Hi, I'm Barbara and I'm a photographer. So here it is. You don't need better photos yet. Say whaat?? When I started doing prep calls before every shoot just to get to know the person I was working with, figure out the vibe, the colours, the mood board something kept happening that I didn't expect. I'd be in the intro call with my potential client and ask her to tell me more about her business. Ask who her ideal client was. And that's where she'd go quiet. Then say something like "I mean... anyone who needs what I do, really." And that answer told me everything. Not because it was wrong but because she'd never been asked to actually sit with it before. So I stopped rushing past those moments and started staying in them. Or she'd say she'd been posting for months but it felt like she was talking to nobody. That she looked at everyone else online and they seemed so put together while she felt like a complete mess behind the scenes. Some of them had already invested in a website. A coach. A course. One woman had actually booked three brand shoots in two years trying to finally feel ready. But still there was something missing. I started to realize it wasn't the photos. It was never the photos. It was that she never sat down to think about those questions. Who she actually was in her business before asking her to show up and perform it for a camera. I couldn't stop thinking about it. That realisation became my whole thing. So somewhere along the way I became obsessed with the clarity that has to come before any of it. The photos, the content, the showing up online. All of it. If you've ever thought "I know I need to be more visible but I genuinely don't know what to say" you're in the right place.
