How can it be that in just two weeks one little furry cryptid from Ballard (Seattle) has captured the hearts and minds of people all around the world? An adorable balm to global strife, a fuzzy symbol of perseverance in the face of insurmountable challenge, a ball shaped beacon of hope in dark times. Jimothy has it all, even if his tail and trunk are a little lacking. That’s the point! And now you can color him in your favorite shades in my latest edition of the Unnatural History collection of Coloring Books- Scripted Cryptids - available on Etsy and Amazon. #jimothy #hope #adultcolouring #coloredpencilart #cryptidcore by @blixa6studios

What color do you color a gray little trash panda called Jimothy? Well his hometown is Seattle, perhaps shades of blue? #coloredpencil #jimothy #adultcoloringbook #blue by @blixa6studios

How could I not make Jimothy a feature of my latest coloring book - Scripted Cryptids - given he’s hit the scene at prettymuch the same time as my book release. So this past week I spent a bit of time whispering his features into Midjourney to see what we could come up with to make the revision. Out with Ba’al, in with a little ball shaped trash panda! And now the updated version of the book, featuring @jimothy is already available on both Etsy and Amazon - so we can all enjoy the latest Cryptid to reach the hearts and minds of the world. #jimothy #jimothyraccoon #cryptid #cryptidcore #adultcoloringbook by @blixa6studios

What an honor to have Amy who came all the way from Germany to be part of MADE.

It was so gratifying to see Amy transforming her animal creatures from her books of illustrations into different mediums. During her time with us we were able to register her at Black Estudio where she took Grabado with Felipe who shared Guadalupe Posada’s work as example for inspiration. In that class Amy created a series of nine prints, just like the original images in her books, they turned out to be fantastic. The last print she carved was an original image made by her based on Mexican culture Alebrijes, a mix of an Axolot and Hummingbird - Hummolotl. Then in Cartoneria class at El Sindicato she moved into 3D and let’s say her mask of her fantastical Pufferdog is quite something, we love it.

Amy also took a Tinsmithing workshop with Jorge as her instructor and a cooking class at La Finca. She enjoyed both classes in the company of her fearless co-resident and companion, Lisa @lisaboemerart . It was so amazing to see them getting along while exploring SMA, attending to cultural events such parades and local sites, and just enjoying their creative time and space together.

During her residency Amy took a trip to Mexico City, there she visited some great museums where she got to see contemporary works and some outstanding murals by Diego Rivera and Alfaro Siqueiros. While at Ciudad de Mexico, Amy also checked some amazing architecture from different buildings at UNAM, but also Frida and Diego’s studios designed by Juan O’Gorman.

We THANK Amy for being so professional, for pushing herself to work back with her hands and making really nice works while here. We can’t wait to have Amy back at MADE, we hope next time some of her fantastical creatures will become Tinsmithing inspiration material. All the best amiga Amy @blixa6studios #creative #immerse #living #mexico by @blixa6studios

The two final weeks for Amy and Lisa were filled with activity whether going to their classes, finishing up projects, working on new paintings or illustrations, trying new local restaurants, inventing a MADE drink 😬, visiting sites in town like the Botanical Garden, and of course attending Los Locos Parade. It was fantastic to have them at MADE, they were definitely quite of a duo, Thank you amigas. Stay tuned for their personal post where we will share more of @lisaboemerart and @blixa6studios work and the time and space they shared with us while immersing themselves living Mexico, it’s culture and creating😉 #immersion #creativity #méxico #inspiration by @blixa6studios

If all the world’s a stage, what mask are you wearing? Here in San Miguel de Allende, as well as all of Mexico, cartoneria is a fantastic way to create masks - as I’ve discovered during my time at @made_creatives_in_residence working with Diego at @el.sindicato where I’ve had the opportunity to bring one of my favorite AI generated critters to life with paper maché.

Behold Schrimpy, a poisonous puffer dog from my Unnatural History Collection of “adult” coloring books. From first forms to final piece, the journey was at times relaxing, at others stressful, whether basking my fingers in warm wheat paste or cycling through not quite right colors on the road to down to the wire redemption in the last hours, when the black and red were laid atop the weird baby-vomit hues I had settled on. Here’s to (mostly) trusting the process and being surprised at the results! #aiartdaily #trustheprocess #handmade #mask #cartonería by @blixa6studios

Well two weeks for the current residents, it has been a blast to have them at MADE. In their time here Amy and Lisa have cover a good amount of territory 😬. The first week we took it “slow” but not really right away they started classes and exploring SMA. Cartoneria, Grabado, Tinsmithing, Weaving and even cooking classes are in their schedules. They have also visited some of the cultural and art centers such La Aurora, Nigromante and Museo de la Esquina, etc.
Oh and let’s don’t forget @lisaboemerart and www.blixa6studios.com are foodies so for sure, they are loving their culinary experience in SMA.
In solo creative time at MADE they have been working on paintings and illustrations that are looking pretty great.
To finish their second week, we attended yesterday to El Valle del Maíz parade where we had a great time, they got to see mojigangas, traditional indigenous dancers from different areas of Mexico, and even some locos perhaps in prep for the coming festivities in two weeks, The Locos Parade.
We are excited to have them here for another two weeks exploring and creating by being immersed living Mexico. Let’s keep going amigas 😉 #immersion #creativity #méxico #inspiration by @blixa6studios
