Today, we honor Juneteenth and the enduring legacy of freedom, resilience, and progress.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when freedom was finally enforced for enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

As we reflect on this day, we recognize the generations of Black leaders whose courage, advocacy, and determination have helped move our communities forward. Their work continues today through nonprofit organizations, community institutions, and everyday acts of leadership that create opportunity and drive change.

Today, we celebrate freedom. We celebrate leadership. We celebrate progress.

A highlight of the evening was hearing participants present their Capstone Projects.

Each capstone represented a real challenge, opportunity, or goal within their organization. From board engagement and fundraising strategies to operational improvements and leadership initiatives, these projects reflected thoughtful planning and a commitment to strengthening the organizations and communities they serve.

The presentations were a reminder that leadership development is most powerful when learning is translated into action.

On June 2nd, we gathered at ROOST Baltimore to celebrate the BLK Leadership Accelerator Class of 2025-2026.

Over the past six months, these leaders have committed to strengthening their leadership, expanding their networks, building practical tools for their organizations, and navigating the challenges of nonprofit leadership alongside a community of peers who understand the journey.

Together, they engaged in conversations on executive presence, legal compliance, board governance, human resources, nonprofit finance, emotional capacity, and organizational sustainability while developing solutions that will continue to serve their organizations long after the program's conclusion.

Thank you to our facilitators, advisors, partners, and funders whose support made this experience possible. Your investment continues to strengthen Black-led organizations and the leaders behind them.

HERstory Matters: Rooted in Power, Not Permission.

This recap captures moments from an evening where Black women nonprofit leaders came together to engage in honest conversation about what it means to lead in today’s climate. Across the sector, leaders are navigating shifting funding priorities, increased community need, and growing expectations while continuing to build and sustain organizations that communities rely on.

The conversation reflected real experiences, balancing responsibility, protecting mission, and finding ways to stay grounded while leading through uncertainty. It also created space for connection, shared perspective, and the kind of dialogue that doesn’t always happen publicly but is necessary for leadership to move forward.
